I'm sure I'm probably just missing something since a search yielded no similar complaints.

When we get a Bluetooth call in, my wife typically transfers the call from the car to her phone (using the phone's menu) so it's not on speaker. However, the radio display stays fixed on the incoming call screen and none of the radio controls can be used (except volume).

It's irritating not to be able to change the channel for the duration of the call - this can't be an intentional design. This is the case whether the call is through the car, or redirected to the phone itself.

What am I missing?

try transferring the call by using the bluetooth menu

hit the bluetooth button and say transfer call it will go to the phone and may free the radio. i know the transfer the call thing works not sure if it frees the radio though, but it is worth a try...

We tried that first and it didn't work. Thought using the phone would be more likely to completely take the car out of the loop. Nothing frees it up until the call is terminated.

Can't you just turn bluetooth off on the phone once it is answered? Maybe?

Possibly, but that would be a PITA - especially if you have to re-pair afterwards.

I usually just shut my bluetooth off on my phone when I want privacy. My phone automatically re-connects the bluetooth afterwards. Its just 2 steps on my phone, not sure how many it is to transfer.

Umm, if your wife typically doesn't use the onboard Bluetooth, then why even pair it? It's more of a hassel to transfer the call back to the handset for each call, then to just turn on the Bluetooth when you want it... no? If indeed she uses it so rarely...

I just turn bluetooth off on my phone. When I turn bluetooth back on, the phone instantly re-connects to the car if they are in proximity.

If the call is for me, it stays on the car. If it's for her, she typically prefers it not to be on speakerphone - and I typically prefer it also.

Turning on and off Bluetooth depending on who's calling is definitely a work around, but at that point the easier workaround would just to do nothing and live with whatever station is on at the time the call came in.

I assume from the responses that this a problem with the car in general, and not some glitch in my particular vehicle?

It's not the phone, at least I don't think so. Two different phones do the same thing. Plus, nobody else seems to have a car that does anything different, so I assume it's a design flaw in the car.

Why would you call it a flaw? You should only be using hands-free while driving anyways. It's designed correctly to adhere to the cell phone laws that most states are adopting. There is no flaw.

The 'flaw' is that you're taking the call FROM a connected [to the car] device. Don't connect it in the first place if every time she gets a call it wont be used connected through the car. Could it be changed? Yeah. Could you change the way you're doing it? Yeah.

Believe he is saying his wife puts it on her phone while she is in the passenger seat, not while she is driving.
