They're not all so bad, I've worked with some straight shooting salespeople, but they're more the exception than the rule.

Agreed - a bit long, but I enjoyed it immensely. It pointed out a lot of the mistakes I made when I went to buy my first car - luckily I got a miraculous text message from my mother saying she had seen the exact same car advertised online for 1500 dollars less than what the dealer was going to give me AFTER my trade, and I called and walked out. If it wasn't for her, though, I probably would have bought it...

Long but good read. While it seems the car selling business in the US is a lot different from here (here stuff like going up to the car when you arrive is unheard of, people would jump right back in and drive away QUICKLY) it still has some valuable lessons.

And it seems my attitude towards it is the prudent one. I already have a few dealerships scouted for when I finally buy by Camaro, two in particular even. One is the biggest GM dealer in the state, the other is a dealer that specializes in import cars. And I'm leaning towards the second one out of the simple reason that they know their stuff, come of as very serious, have a very comprehensive and well made home page.

And also because when I went their and test sat the Bullitt Mustang I at no time felt pressured, the guy who I talked with (who btw didn't walk up to me until I made eyecontact) was very nice and asked what I was looking for and so on, the salesbit, but not in an annoying or intrusive way. I've been a salesman myself and I know that it's a fine line to walk of trying to sell stuff to people and loosing a deal because you lay it at too much, and sure he obviously wanted me to buy the car (hell I wanted me to buy the car as soon as I sat in it) he let me take my time and simply gave me his card when it became clear that I wasn't buying anything that day and there was noo hard feelings or anything. Besides I think they guy noticed I wanted the car but just though I couldn't because the wife wouldn't let me

But all in all it left positive enough a compression on that I will surely consider them when it's time for the Camaro.

As an aside the other dealership I have my eye on, while big and slicklooking, doesn't really seem to have their shit together when it comes to the Camaro. I've popped my head in at several points over the last few years and heard nothing more then "we're getting it, that's all we know". At last visit one guy in the Chevrolet division admited that the details he had he'd gotten from one of the major newspapers in Sweden...not one of the major Car magazines...

I was dressed up somewhat because I had to go to work after buying the Goat earlier this year. In retrospect, looking like I had money to spend probably wound up biting me in the ass.

Its the exact opposite for me and my wife... we both look like we need to be carded at an arcade... I HAVE to dress up in my business attire just to have a salesman take me seriously. I have even had a salesman laugh in my face when i wanted him to unlock a car so I could get a good inspection of the interior...

I know that feeling, long ago when I was driving around in my Dodge Omni I went to a dealership and it took forever for a salesman to come and talk to me when I was seriously looking at cars. I was also dressed in sweats and a t-shirt since I stopped by the dealership on my way home from the gym. Guy barely wanted to give me the time of day. A few minutes later, some guy shows up driving a much nicer car than mine and the salesman bolted from me to go over and talk to him. Needless to say, I didn't end up buying from that dealer and told all my co-workers to avoid them as well.

Wow, so much to say about being a salesman, but i don't want to bore you all. I joined this forum way before returning to sales. True enthusiast first, sales second. I wish you guys could come talk to my dealership, or sit in on a meeting and listen to my sales manager talk about pleasing the customers, and creating "Raving Fans" or "We are in the service industry, we just happen to sale cars". Now I am not a prof. Internet salesman, but if you are close to Kansas you should think about hitting me up in PM. I have only two deposits taken. When allocation come around I will be able to get people in line quickly.
