I was on the same boat. You might want to talk to Brandon at MarylandSpeed, he's a wealth of knowledge when it comes to Kooks headers. I went with the high flow cats. If you go with long tubes so will have to go with either straight pipes or high flow cats; won't directly bolt on to stock cats, they would have to be relocated and that would take cutting and welding.

you have to buy the cats unless you plan on bypassing them and i dont suggest that. When it comes to the headers installation its really easy. the headers connect right to the kooks cats and the kooks cats connect right to the stock exhaust. even the O2 sensors connect perfect. its well worth it. trust me here.

I did the Kook's 1 7/8" headers with high flow cats. Do a seach under my name and you can see the before and after results, I gained 24rwhp and 18rwtq from the header swap. I'm going to take the cats off in a week or so and dyno again with the offroad setup.

Dollar to a donut on a stock car the HP results will be nearly identical....or see a slight drop in both HP & TQ with increased tube size.

Actually most say the larger tube size will increase hp more and increase tourque less. This was typical on smaller, less hp stock LS1s. From what I've seen the smaller primaries have no advantage over the oarger on LS3s but I'll leave that discussion for the Janetty test. If you plan on staying stock it won't matter but if you want to add a cam or something more the 1-7/8 will be ideal.
