DIY Grit Guard
I made a grit guard by cutting the bottom off of a 5 gallon bucket about 4 inches from the bottom. I drilled a bunch of 3/8" holes all over it. Turn it bottom up and put it in another 5 gallon bucket. It has worked really well, there is always dirt in the bottom of the bucket and so far no swirls.
I ran a zip tie through two of the holes for a handle to be able to pull it out of the bucket since it gets wedged in there pretty tight. I did this because the car needed to be washed and didn't want to wait for a real grit guard to be shipped, and this was free since I had buckets on hand. It's used when you wash with a two bucket method. One bucket with your soap, and a second bucket with clean water and the grit guard to rinse your wash mit, rag, sponge, bed pillow, whatever you wash the car with. The grit guard lets the dirt that is rinsed out of the wash mit to fall to the bottom of the clean water bucket and not get re-introduced into the soap bucket. |
