DIY Grit Guard
I made a grit guard by cutting the bottom off of a 5 gallon bucket about 4 inches from the bottom. I drilled a bunch of 3/8" holes all over it. Turn it bottom up and put it in another 5 gallon bucket. It has worked really well, there is always dirt in the bottom of the bucket and so far no swirls.
I ran a zip tie through two of the holes for a handle to be able to pull it out of the bucket since it gets wedged in there pretty tight. I did this because the car needed to be washed and didn't want to wait for a real grit guard to be shipped, and this was free since I had buckets on hand. That's a GREAT idea!
 I've been wanting to order a grit guard, but you came up with a much less expensive alternative. I'm going to give that a try. Thanks!
