I get a call my SIM 2SS/RS M6 is built Feb 9th, arrived at dealer Feb 11th. I go see my salesman today to finalize everything, and get balanced owed after $1000 deposit. I don't know about in the USA, but here in Canada if you want to buy something with actual paper cash in hand, you will not be popular. My salesman said he would have to report such a large cash transaction to the RCMP. Apparently cash is taboo. Does this happen in the USA?. Any thoughts or comments. And, no i'm not into anything illegal.

In the US we like cash.... if you tell a dealer you are paying cash for your car they immediately get happy and give you better deals. At least in my experience.

Anything over 10000 in cash is supposed to be reported to the rcmp. And its also illegal to have more than 10000 in cash on your person. If you do they will take it away. And with the integrity of our officers I doubt they would report or anything, rather split and take.

Yeah its stupid. But who cares about popularity, say it with cash. =) Its satisfying.

Better than those assholes that buy their 1 coffee with debit cards and credit cards.

Cash is not taboo they are just not happy when they cant track what your doing via the fiscal system. So screw them.

When I bought the Cobalt with cash, the salesman almost melted. He took a few hundred more off the top and couldn't have been nicer to us.

It's preferred, as far as I've ever experienced.

You can pay by check with no problems. But here in MN there is a law that dealers have to report any transaction over $10k in cash. It is a law that was created to go after criminals some years ago. I'm not sure about other states.

The truth is even with my bias of southern opinions, that americans are much better sales people. More willing to work with you and less 'the system the system'.

In the US any transaction over $10k get reported. It's really not a big deal if you withdrew the money from your bank account. I've never had an exceptional deal because of cash. If you borrow the money from your bank and give them a bank check they still get paid the same as cash anyway. If you finance through them they may make more off you in interest.

The finance guy at the dealership was quite happy to accept cash for a down payment at trade in time,,,,,

Debit IS cash. I rarely have cash. My cash is plastic and it's my cash.

Large cash transactions with tens of thousands of dollars will get extra scrutiny anywhere. There are two reasons for this, first off the said reality is that high quality counterfeit cash is a real concern with transactions this large and must be guarded against. The other big thing is the government is always on the lookout for people not paying income taxes on their cash income (tax fraud is also often tied with illegal sources of income and has been since the days of Al Capone) so cash transactions of that size will get you some extra scrutiny. The dealer should like it though (barring strange Canadian laws) even if there's a little paperwork, though they may wish to make some arrangement for a transaction with that much cash. Your money is a lot safer in a bank though, at least in the U.S. the govenment insures your money and you can use a check which isn't nearly so easy to steal.

My dealer told me I would get a better deal on the car financing it. The dealership gets some type of points.
