Axles snapping

Alright - so I have seen several people state that they have broken their axle with minor mods . I was wondering - how many people with automatics have broken their axle with mods It seems most who I saw post were manuals.

I had posted this in the general discussion but felt this is a more appropriate area.

I am curious because I am putting a bunch of mods on mine and really need to know if I do need to drop the $2k on new axles or if the automatic will treat the axles better without as much force at once and won't snap them.

I still can't figure out why Chevy designed the axles the way they did when they knew that we would be upgrading these cars

The one I saw was a manual during launch at the track. Power hop then snap... brand new no mods...

Anyone know why GM decided to have the axles thick at the ends and reduce size to half in the middle? I mean, common sense would say that the middle would be a large weak spot.

I also know warranty won't cover me, not with cam, headers, exhaust, torque converter.

Tq converter... so you have an L99 and still broke your axle... Damn that sucks...

Guess it wouldn't hurt to try warranty...

No, I didn't break it, I am trying to find out if I would though.

It's just the oppisite, the axles are thicker in the middle and then neck down on the ends.
They do this to stop wheel hop. Only problem is they didnt do it right nor did they use the right material.
It works alot better then not having the large axle on one side but they could of done a much better job on designing the axles.
But then again, if they did, what would I do? LOL

Thanks
Chris

Hello gforce,
What is the difference between

http://shop.gforce1320.com/product.s...&categoryId=36

and are these sold in pairs?

One uses all 4130 Chromoly axles and stubs, the other uses all 300m axles and stubs.
300m is much stronger then Chromoly.
We were asked to make both variations by a lot of folks so we will.
And prices are for a pair.

Thanks
Chris

They are at introductory group buy pricing right now, we have a thread in the vendor section that talks about pricing and stuff.

Thanks
Chris

The auto will not take the "shock" of power like the stick. The auto however takes that "shock" of power in the tranny. This is why you will see more auto trannie failures and stick axle failures.

Like mentioned above I hear this is less likely with an Auto.

I have a M6 and it happened when I grabbed second. The axle was not a problem at all. It was the CV joint!!!! Inner race split allowing it to spin on the axle.

The solution. Hendrix axles. Here is a comparison..

Yes the cage is the weak link.We use a great big bar on one side and a big bar on the other,we have special cages built to handle the big weight of the camaro that keeps the bigger size bar all the way into the cage, unlike the others that mill down the bar to use your run of the mill weaker cages...

How much does it cost to purchase and have it installed? Mine has not snapped, and I hope it does not, but I'm just curious as to the cost?
