Automatic Trans Question

Hi, I just got a 2010 Camaro SS with Automatic Trans from a friend. It only has 200 miles. I do not think the trans is working properly but I do not know. When I use the sport mode, it is suppose to down shift quicker, to keep the revs up, doesn't it? It only does it once every 10 times. Does it have a problem? Maybe the computer?

Other than that I Love the car!!!

To be honest I don't know. Never paid attention. I know that in sport mode it won't shift until redline (or close to anyways) for each gear. Haven't paid attention to the downshifting though. How high do you want your revs anyways? You realize if you really want to keep your revs up you can just use your paddle shifters and force it to downshift...

It has done it, but not continusly. When it does it, it keeps revs at 3500 min. Yes, I have tried the paddle shifters. I am just trying to see if the trans is ok or do I need to take it back to the dealer. Thanks for your comment.

Sport mode keeps it from changing gear until absolutely necessary.

Without taking it for a spin I couldnt tell you. I would have to say its ok, if its 200 miles legit on her you will be fine. Not heard of anyone else complaining about this issue but I could be wrong. I think you are ok.

How do you get these into sports mode??? I've never driven what i call a smart car before. I know of the traction control modes but not trans modes.

From the owners manual You can dowload this from the Wiki page if need be. Hope this helps!

Competitive
Driving Mode

On vehicles with a V8 engine,
the driver can select this optional
handling mode by pressing the
StabiliTrak/TCS button two times
quickly while Traction Control and
StabiliTrak are turned on. When
the system is on, the StabiliTrak
Off light comes on and StabiliTrak
Competitive Mode will be displayed
in the Driver Information Center
(DIC). See Ride Control System
Messages on page 4-34.

For Sport Mode with the A6 just put the car down in M and DO NOT touch the paddle shifters.

Pretty easy.

The more agressive you are with your driving the more agressive sport mode is. At least that is what I have found. I really didnt push mine until the breakin period was over and didnt use sport mode much then. Now with 8k its pretty much all I drive in now and if you really get on it and also brake hard you will see that it maintains a higher RPM. When braking hard it downshifts at much higher RPM's and is very very aggresive. Only problem I noticed is it is so much fun to drive in this mode that my gas milage took a good hit.
One last thing is that it seems like it learns from your driving habits. It could be just in my head but the more aggresive I drive the more it seems to respond. I tired the paddles for a while and they are ok and definetly have a use in certain situations but I found just keeping her in sport mode is all ya need.

i agree and when you exit a turn depressing the gas pedal fully brings revs up nicely makes your brain feel good.

well ill be damned. I did not know that the Competitive Driving Mode changed the shifting as well. Guess i should read that owners manual more often took my 6 tries before i figured out u have to pull the lever towards u to use the washer fluid lol. I'm too use to my old beat up ford ranger. Looks like i now have plans for tonight try this Competitive Driving Mode out.

Hey, thanks for your comments. I think you are right, it is related to how hard you drive it, that is why I did not feel it every time. I will ride it tonight and give you my feedback on how it does

It is... I have 2 completely different automatics:

[D] - the calm, relaxed... walk softly & carry a big stick, and
[S] - the don't $#@ with me or I'll rip your head off!

I've driven almost exclusively in Sport mode (Manual w/o shifters) since I got my Camaro, and I've driven it aggressively. It responds aggressively! It won't hold high rpms for long periods without acceleration, but it will hold them. (hold on!)
