I was very interested in the gains from the Borla S-type (140280) when I bought mine prior to supercharging. I have since read many reputable tuners state that you don't get any measurable gains from any of the 2.5" systems out there, just sound. I did baseline dyno and then added many mods and was very disappointed in the results. I had CAI, shorty headers, modified MAF, catback, and "performance module" and got a whopping total of about 18-19 RWHP gain without tune. I finally said screw it and went with a great builder, Lingenfelter, and am very, very happy! My advice - PM some of the reputable tuners on here. They'll tell you the truths about a lot of these aftermarket parts and help steer you straight.

I wouldn't expect any power gains from a catback. You'll need to do LT headers to get any gains. For the price I would check out the Granatelli set-up, it looks just like the Bolrla.

Cat-backs have very little gains in the range of 5hp or less and most of that is from getting rid of the resonators. |

Hey Strange - thanks for catching my "not". That was a case of editing one post too many times before clicking "Post Reply" and not proofreading. I am VERY, VERY happy with Lingenfelter. I have never experienced customer service like that and their product, as everybody knows, is amazing. I have nothing but the best things to say about them, so I feel like a tool for not catching my "not happy" typo.

For cat backs the differences between 3" and 2.5" are very small if any on a stock car. The driver will most certainly never notice the difference in hp and even dyno's may never show it as the differences are well within the margin of error that dynos have.

TheKid - I haven't dyno'd them myself, but I have heard others on here say there are some minor gains to be had on a stock car with 3" catback. But like Draco says, I don't think it'll be much. The most sensitive "butt dynos" (sounds scientific, eh?) can only tell about 20-25 RWHP gain or loss. I highly doubt you'd see anywhere near that with either of the systems, but your best shot at small gains will be the 3".
Spymaster - there is something wrong with your curves. Neither HP or TQ drop like you see at about 100 mph and even if that was temporary glitch in signal pick-ups the green peak is way off where it is at lower speed if you extrapolate and draw an imaginary line through the drop-out. That looks like a torque curve, but is only valid if over the same RPM range as the HP and they should always cross at 5250 RPM. HP is nothing more than TQ x RPM / 5250, so at 5250 RPM, HP = TQ. Also, there is no correction factor turned on. Best way to compare is always correct to SAE. Even in Reno high altitude my uncorrected numbers can change by 3-5% depending on weather, which at say stock 350-ish is 10-18 RWHP! That's just day-to-day changes, relative measurements. Now I'm at 4500 feet so my "absolute" correction factor is typically 15%! So if I didn't correct to SAE I'd not be able to compare to almost anybody here on the forums since my car would be so low on power. Only safe way to put numbers out there, compare from pre-mods to post-mods, etc, is to ALWAYS correct to SAE.

Spymaster - I keep hearing of all these supercharger backorders. I just got my car home yesterday from Lingenfelter. I think I just barely beat the backorder jamming, thankfully! I feel for you. Good choices though. That Borla sounds MEAN with a supercharger in front of it. I prefer the throaty sound of Borla to the raspy sound of Corsa, but with a supercharger you get a little of both as the Borla cackles a bit with all that air rushing through. You're going to love it, it will be worth the wait!
