20's or 22's that is the question

I'm about to start my mods on my SS. One is new wheels and tires. I've decided to go with 3 piece forged, but can't decide to go with 20's or 22's. I'll be doing some track racing (not drag). Which would give me better control? The larger sidewall on the 20's or the smaller ones on the 22's? One of my other mods will be new bushings, sway bars and coil overs.

Nice color...

We have 22s on our ABM.

Its personal opinion but let it be your choice. I can get you a great deal on any of the following 3 piece wheels.
Cor, Axiom, Vossen, ISS, or Iconz...
So, let me know once you have it more narrowed down.

I have 22s on my personal car, but would never recommend them for road racing. 22s are about appearance, period. For tracking, I'll use my stock 20s with good tires on them.

Let me know if I can assist, I carry about 20 brands.

Thanks guys, Indpowr and Nine Ball, you both have Pm'ed me about wheels. I just can't make up my mind. This is about the only mod I'm doing that will be both for looks and function. All the rest are for performance only.

Hey. You live in my area! I would definitely recommend Tony when you're ready for wheels. He's local and really knows his stuff.

Just noticed that too Russ. I'd like to see that C10/LSX project!

If your doing any track time, 22's are pointless.

1) Get some nice looking 22" wheels for the street. It sounds crazy putting 22" wheels on a sports car, but 22's just look right. They will absolutely "make" your car in the looks department.

2) Take your stock wheels and throw on some Proxes R888 or similar race tires. Then you can swap them out as needed and you have the best of both worlds.

As far as an upgrade with the express purpose of track time I would have to agree.

But mods can make up for the tenth of a second given up in straight line acceleration. And after all, after you change from stock, to mods, it's mostly about personal time and the car next to you.

Just figure between a tenth, and two tenths of a second of a loss. But like the guys said, you can keep your stock 20s if you want to get more serious on the track.
