When will we see affordable drag wheels?

I am surprised there are not any other options out there yet for 17" drag wheels besides Bogart. They are great wheels, but over 3k for a set of drag wheels is frustrating but they are the only ones available so I guess they can get what they want. I know, development, etc. costs but there needs to be some competiton in this market to allow price to be affordable to all consumers. I guess I will end up going this route but just wanted to vent some frustration of having to pay this much to play so little at the track.

Probably never. The cheap 15" drag wheels are only cheap because they've been on the market for 30+ years now. Mass produced, thousands of cars fit them. These newer cars are a specialized market, and you are correct that tooling/development/testing costs would keep them expensive.

Think about it, the C5 has been out since 1997 and they still don't make a "cheap" drag wheel for it. Most guys use CCW wheels or Bogart still. Some guys fit GTO spare wheels on the front.

Any suggestions Tony????? On wheels that would work from the aftermarket? For the five or six times a year my Camaro will see the track I can't see that kind of money plus my 22's look to good not to run them unless I'm at the track!!!

agreed. don't see it happening any time soon. get c6 wheels if you just want a wheel to throw something kind of sticky on.

if that's not enough... get the bogarts. you gotta pay to play. if you can't accept that, you picked the wrong hobby.

It would be cheaper for you to swap out your rear brakes for something smaller and then buy smaller wheels, than it would be for you to have someone make a custom wheel. Plus tire choices for bigger wheels SUCK when you are talking a drag radial and nonexistant when you are talking about slicks.

I talked to bestwheeldeals about this and he said these wheels are offered in 18x9.5 and will fit around our breaks. Roughly about $800 for a set of 4 wheels.

I have an SS/RS and the smallest I can go is 17" which is what I am going to do. There are a gazillion options for 18 wheels and cheap but I want the largest slick I can possibly fit under the rear to hook up. I am just hoping more options come available for the 17 soon.

You guys realize that nobody makes a good DRAG tire in 18" right? You are wasting your money. Get some smaller brakes so you can fit some 15's or 16's and you will have all the traction you need. Maybe see what rims fit on the Camaro LS and see what a swap would cost. You can have the stickiest rubber imagineable, but if the sidewall is short and stiff, you will still blow the tires off if you have a lot of power.

are you serious?!?! The hoosier drag radials are RIDICULOUSLY sticky, there are also bfg drag radials, m&h's are also pretty sticky, mickey thompson makes a drag radial as well.... i dont think i need to say anything about how sticky those are, nitto's new nt05r drag radials come in 18's, and toyo's new proxy drag radial comes in an 18 (haven't seen any feedback with those though).... and then of course there's the nitto 555r drag radial that comes in an 18", but you said a good drag tire.

All of those tires come in an applicable size on an 18" wheel.

Now will you find a bias ply in a 18" wheel? no... but there are drag specific tires out there for a 18" wheel.

The best bet I found was 18" Z06 wheels in the rear and set of narrow "winter" 18"s for the front. There is a local guy running 18" wheels on an SS with 225 snow tires. I figure a cheap set of narrow wheels like this on the front will work great. I just picked up 2 18X10.5 C5 Z06 wheels for $125 for the rear. I can't wait to see how the new Nitto NT05R's are rated.

Are there any light weight/drag 15"/16" rims that fit the LS brakes?
