Camaro Vs BMW M3 (boring dilema Im in)

Before I begin my story, let it be known that I am a fan of the BMW M3. In fact in 03 I purchased my very own M3. I owned it for 3.5 years before I traded it in for an H2 Hummer. I loved that car and even the sales person at Hummer Dealer said, why are you getting rid of such gorgeous car? I just told him, to me cars are like women. It don't matter how good they look, I just need a new one every so often. True story, why would I lie right?

Anywho, after owning the H2 for 3 years or so my lease ended and I decided to return it and I bought me a Camaro. However I wasn't planning on buying the Camaro. It was actually my second choice. My first choice was........you guessed it, a 2010 BMW M3. However, BMW refused to give me the deal I was looking for. I gave them time to think about it, and even though they were willing to drop a few dollars more of the price, I still thought it was too expensive. They wanted $65k but I was offering $60k. They wouldn't do it. So I gave up on that car.

I then decided to head over to a Chevrolet dealer and start working on a Camaro. I figured I can offord the SS fully loaded easily but I didn't want it to be my every day car so I went with the V6 with the intent to buy a second car in a few months.

So what happens to me a few days ago? An M3 sitting next to me at a red light. He starts to REV his engine on me. Now I don't race ever. I don't rev my engine at anyone either. So naturally I just smiled at him. But I was drooling over his car from the inside. I love my camaro but that M3 sure looked sweet. And being a V8 it also sounded awesome. I loved it. Sometimes I wonder if I should have bought the M3 in the first place but then I would have missed out on the Camaro, and I love the Camaro. I plan on having it paid for within the next 2 years. Would you guys trade in the Camaro for an M3 or just keep the Camaro and forget about the M3, since it's expensive and i've already owned one in the past?

This is killing me. I want both cars but one of them is so damn expensive. What to do, what to do, what to do? Any ideas? LoL

Dude, I have the same issue (except I can't afford a 60k car I drool over so many cars that I want to have them all, I have a truck and my G8 now, but I'm seriously thinking of trading my truck on something (charger/challenger/camaro/300c...). I just cannot make up my mind as to which vehicle I would want.

You seem to be smarter than I am at this, at least you only have 1 car payment for now. My advice would be to get the Camaro paid off and then revisit this issue.

First off let me say I LOVE my Camaro but it would take me about.00005856365000 of a second to trade it for an M3 if I had the chance!! Those cars are sexy on another level that the Camaro will never achieve!!

Just my $.02!1

Flame suit on!!

I can totally relate to your story. I owned a 2002 BMW M3 and owned it til 2005 when I traded it in for a Ford F150 Lariat. The salespeople did ask me the same thing, "why was I getting rid of an awesome car for a truck?!?". Well, I regretted doing that ever since and when the new M3 came out, I wanted one but like you, I couldn't justify paying close to $70k for a car that will surely cost a lot to maintain after the freebie maintenance is over. So I looked at GT500, Roush, and Camaro. I ended up getting a Camaro since I owned five Gen3 camaros in the past but I always drolled over an M3. Last month, I bought a low mile, 1 owner, clean E36 M3 because I have always loved that body style and the parts are not too expensive, even cheap due to abundance of OEM replacements these days. I am pretty happy with it. It outhandles my Camaro in the canyons.

I've got a solution to your dilemna...

You should've bought the SS like you were looking at, and with the $25,000 difference between it and the M3 you could've put $5,000-$10,000 in aftermarket supercharging and other performance enhancements and next time you get revved at you can leave the M3's butt at the red light chocking on the rubber that you're leaving behind.

I don't buy used cars because of this theory I have. When you buy a used car, you are buying other peoples problems.

As for the M3 going for $58k now, I'm not sure, but I was looking into it last year and last year the M3 had a mark up price. And if I'm not mistaken, that price is for the most basic one. And if I'm going to own another M3, I'm going all out. Fully loaded with everything I want in it.

Agreed. And as amazing as all the car reviewers say the M3 is, its staggeringly boring for a sports car of its caliber. Maybe one day BMW will make it look like a real sports car. Until then, I say get a SS and put an upgraded suspension on it.

The M3 its on a league of its own, awesome car, i can only wish i could afford it.
Now that im thinking about it, for around 70k you can get a GT-R, and that is getting into super car territory.

if i had the cash, i would wait a few more months and get the capital really low, and refinance to get a lower payment and get the car you want. That way you can keep both.

Good luck with you're decision.
