Brushes? or Gloves?

Hi guys,

I recently got a Black Camaro 1LT. I don't think I'd have to explain, my car gets dirty fast. Especially, I live in Vancouver, it rains 200 days out of 365? Soooo... since summer is coming, the only time where rain is a bit scarce, I would like to keep my Car SHINY and clean =D

Now, I have posted before about what kind of product to use on this car, and many of you have posted awesome links to Step by Step ways on how to wash/Detail/Polish/Wax your car.

But today I bring up a question, what I would really like your professional opinion on. What is better for my car when I wash it, Brushes? (Soft brisle) Or those microfiber Glove things? Which one of these damages my car the least? Keeping in mind, my car is Black... I want to keep it "Undamaged" as long as possible.

I've heard both ways, some people say Brushes are better, some say Gloves =/ and I'm just scratching my head.

Thanks in advance =D

Sheepskin Mitts are probably the best for your paint. Use a Waffle Weave drying towel OR an electric air blower to dry. Remember, the less contact with your paint, the less swirls.

I have the same thing. What I did a few days after I got it is washed it, polished it, then waxed it. Go buy yourself a nice quality car exterior duster. The polish + wax will help keep the dirt loose so you can just dust your car off when it gets...dusty. You'll definitely need to wash it though if it rains or if you hit a puddle or a streak of wet road etc.

Definitely go buy a new sponge, use the softest one possible.

And one thing when detailing a black car, GO SLOW! Its the most unforgiving color ever.

never never never use any kind of a brush on your paint.use a microfiber mit,100% cotton or terry towel.that's what i use and it works fine.i also use the dirt guard in my wash bucket.

This!

Wax that bad boy and use a duster to keep the pollen off. When you wash, take your time and don't do it in a rush. Black is a most unforgiving color. Massage it like you would a lady friend.

LOL... yes, i treat my car like a woman man. I'm as gentle as possible. Okay no brush, thats good to know. I bought a Microfiber Mitt, and using a... "sheep skin"? I dont know my friend calls it sheep skin, feels like rubber, but DRYS water like mad.

I'm always so paranoid when i find some blemish... or tree sap, etc... Man.. I'll need to search up more techniques for cleaning the car from different things =(

Your probably right! My brother has a 08 Mustang GT (silver) and even with direct sunlight or my brinkmann swirl finder - you can't find a flaw in it. It has to do with the way light reflects off the metallic in the silver.. Only in just the right lighting at just the right angle can you see any imperfections in the paint, so why bother fixing it? We don't.. too much effort for not enough result

Speak for yourself, I put as much effort into my SIM as I would a black car.

Man, I keep talking to my friend who uses his Brushes, and he's like, "No man, your Microfiber Mitt is damaging your car, use brushes"...

I think I believe you guys more... cuz the brushes feel so much more coarse... Do you guys know any articles that prove brushes are worse than Mitts? I personally am staying with the Microfiber Mitt, but I kind of want to convince him that he shouldn't use brushes

Anything on autopia.org, thats the "pro" detailer hangout... I know from experience.

If your friend wants to use brushes, let him... The truth is, there aren't as many people that are as anal as some of us are about the appearances of our cars. I tell everyone that ever PM's me for info - use the product that works for you! Don't use that $175 to wax your car if its not in your budget, a $20 wax will work just as good if you get the right stuff.

You'll be a lot better off when you do some research try a few products and methods for yourself, and see what works best for you... I'm on 10+ years with the car detailing itch, the only advice I can give you is what I know from experience.

Chris - the mustang's silver (pewter) is the only silver I have EVER seen do this...
