Did the muffler Delete, hate the Decel. popping

You guys that have the SLP Loudmouth II, is the popping on deceleration much louder than stock?

I bought the Loudmouth I (muffler delete) and I LOVE THE SOUND, except I HATE the decel. popping noise even more. Sounds like crap and I am embarrassed for someone to ride with me. I know you can tune it out but I dont want to go that route.

I am thinking of going with the loudmouth II or borla S type axleback. Seems to me that any muffler should be enough to dull down the popping to a more reasonable level. I'm sure that I will lose some of the "good noises" by adding a muffler but I have do do something.

Was looking at the Doug Thorley catback, awesome price. Has anyone seen any vids of it other than the one on the dyno? Any comments of decel. popping on this one?

any exhaust is going to do it to some extent, its all in the factory tune and there is no way around it until you get some kind of a tune. Even the factory exhaust does it you just dont notice it because its so quiet.

Yea I noticed it with the factory mufflers, but it was so quiet it didn't sound bad. This is just like someone has tied a string of firecrackers under my trunk and set them off.

I would hope that most of the aftermarket systems with mufflers subdue the popping so that it is more tolerable. I watched some hi def youtube vids of the muffler delete before deciding on this, and never thought it would bother me. Money spent, and lesson learned I guess.

A resonated X-pipe might help some. Also, after I put on my Halltech Yellow Jacket I think it helped to reduce the decel popping as well. Again...still there just not as bad. You may just have to learn to push in the clutch a little sooner or give it just a slight touch on the gas pedal to make it go away. I'm not crazy about it either....I'm just learning how to drive around it.

i do the same thing just keep a little bit of gas on decel and it is pretty much not there at all. Its all because GM shut off pretty much all fuel on decel in the name of fuel economy.

Cool. Just make me a good deal on your LS3 and go buy an Toyota.

Crap, a pop once in a while, whats the big deal? A pop or crackle was not at all uncommon back in the original muscle car days.

And put the original exhaust back on before you sell it.

Shoot me a PM if you're looking for the best prices on any Doug Thorley Catbacks and Exhaust!

I'll soon be posting up a video of the Catback installed. Just been way too darn busy and this is the side gig so it comes after work and grad school.

Not many videos out of it yet since there are only technically a handful in the USA that have been sold.

Major shipping out will happen on Thursday I'm told.

I can't wait, been sitting on an order of 20 for about 3 weeks now.

Lemme know if I can help.

Thanks,
Ivan

As stated above most exhausts will do that, it's in the tune. Personally I love the burbling on deceleration with my borla s. More of a deep rumble than a popping sound.

As suggested, it can be tuned out...just make sure they do it correctly and don't kill your gas mileage!

I also don't care for it and after my basic tune, I'll work on reducing that as well.

me 2 ... on the way to the fest I was behind another Camaro that was popping coming up to a red light... I think it is our signature! I quickly downshifted so mine would pop too ....I had thought about tuning it out, but after that moment......... the popping is here to stay.

I think it is saing ...

"deep pop...pop.... watch out mustangs....pop.... and Challengers.....deep pop...pop.... deep pop"

then it sounds like a demon being unleashed at WOT

btw...The PCM is pulling fuel during decel that causes it. My wideband gauge senses a mixure so lean that it throws an error code (over 21 AFR). Then when I give it gas it comes right back to normal.

Not really a signature when any vehicle with a free flowing/loud exhaust and DFCO (deceleration fuel cutoff) will do the same thing

You will kill your gas mileage turning DFCO off.

I used to have fun when I had the straight pipes on the car with longtubes, no cats and big cam. Run up to the top of 2nd in a tunnel and let off the gas... scared the shit out of everyone.

What other cars do the popping? (I am guessing the GTO and the G8... maybe the Trailblazer SS) ... I haven't noticed any yet. My wifes 2009 rustang GT and my friends Challenger RT doesn't do it.... so of the three it can be our signature.
