Quick question about adding amp / sub to base system

Wasn't able to find my answer by searching so wanted to ask a quick question...

I have a LS with the base sound system. In my '94 Z28 I installed an entirely new system with Alpine amps and a 10" sub. I would really like to move the amps and the sub to my '10 but leave the stock stereo and speakers.

I have two Amps that I believe are 250 watts each, one to power the speakers and the other to power the sub. I just want to know if it would be relatively easy for an experienced installer to install the two amps and the sub in my '10 or if its relatively difficult. Basically, I'm trying to gauge how much this would cost me.

Last question, my old stereo has a iPod cord connection (the dock type, not aux), would there be any way to "plug and play" this cord to the stock stereo and have it work? Or is it more complicated then that?

Thanks for any info.

Well, yes and no... it requires a line out converter. I personally installed an amp and sub this way and it actually sounds pretty good in my 1LT.

I don't have the premium sound package either so I replaced all the speakers. To answer your question more fully, you wouldn't want to power the stock speakers from an amp, not to mention THAT particular aspect would not be easy.

If all you want is a bit of bass, use a line out converter to connect the amp/sub. If you want a much nicer all around sound, replace the speakers too. And from there you could use JL Audio Cleansweep to power your speakers from an external amp and still keep your headunit. That's what I'm doing.

Got it, thank you, that is exactly what I wanted to know.

Does anyone else know if you can "plug and play" an iPod cord into the stock head unit? Or do you need that "Official PDIM Accessory" from GM?
