Daily Drivers
My car is ordered now and should have it by the end of May, its a 2LT/RS. It's going to be my daily driver and I'll have to drive it during the winter too. I've driven nothin but Jeep's until this point so it's definitley gonna take some adjusting, but i'm excited for it. How have you guys made out so far using your Camaro as a daily driver and through this past winter? and do you guys have any tips for a new Camaro owner?

Get a set of all season tires or winter tires. The P Zeros are not good in snow.

Yea you gonna need some snow tires in Jersey, I know how the Del Valley gets during the winter time.

I doubt the opinion of a non-RS daily driver will do you much good, but I'm in Gloucester county and we got hammered pretty good. In spite of that the car did great, much better than I expected - I thought I'd go out the first time in the snow and ice, get terrified, and buy snow tires that day, but I have no plans to do so now, it's that mild-mannered. But of course those are the stock tires on the 18" wheels. Honestly, in all likelihood the tires on the RS probably would get you through if you took it real easy on the throttle (sheer weight, its even distribution and stability control count for a lot), but why chance it?
Good luck! |

I purchased a complete set of studded snow tires 18" rims. Changed them out when it called for snow. Otherwise I drove with the supposed summer only tires. I was driving in temp regularly in the teens. Much like anything else common sense comes into play by not blasting the excelerator to the floor. In the snow I started in second and shifted to 4th shortly there after. So far so good. Had tire change-all 4 down to 20 minutes.

No winter worries here in Texas, so I drive her everyday. No special tires or mods needed. I can't imagine having to garage it in the winter! I got my car in December last year and have been driving it ever since. Sorry for the northerners that can't enjoy it year round

That is one reason I am hesitant to buy a new SS. I can't deal with snow, have another car, but no place to store the Camaro :(.

Heh, I plan on buying a SS and driving it in the snow. Currently I drive a 99 Z28. I put about 200 lbs of salt in the back to weigh it down (four 50 lb bags). It helps. I am hoping the SS will do good with traction control, but I will worry about that when the time comes I guess.
Anyone here drive an SS with stock tires in the snow? How bad was it? |

Mine is a DD and this past winter was a bee-ouch in the Hudson Valley. Never got snows (sold out when looking in December) and just dealt with it. A few storms were just too much for any RWD car (snows or not) so I just stayed in.
The PZero's have VERY limited grip in the snow. I had a few unexpected slides but growing up in the snow belt, I know how to drive in the snow. I wouldn't suggest driving in the snow with the OEM's but I did it often... quick note - back in January, I stop at the end of my driveway with the slightest of inclines, to get my mail, it's snowing very lightly and my driveway is covere but not the roads. I stop, get out, get the mail and get back in to pull out onto the street....I let the clutch out in first (no gas) and she just sits and spins. At like 700 rpm, just sitting and spinning...it made me laugh actually. |
