Safe spot to drill hole into firewall picture.
I am running wires today and I figured I would show you guys a safe spot to drill at.
You will need a small pilot drill bit and 1/2 inch bit and rubber grommet from lowes. Lowes has then in the section where all the nuts and bolts are on the wall. I had to ask the man working there. Locate the spot I drilled at and drill it out with a small hand drill. My big 18v one was to bulky so I got a small 9v one and drilled from under the dash. I used a small bit to make a pilot hole for the 1/2 hole. Worked like a charm. I then pushed the grommet in hole from the engine compartment. In the picture there is a part of it folded over which i fixed with a needle nose plier. Now you might wonder why the heck i used 1/2 inch. Well I plan to run a few wires over time and I wanted room to grow. The gap can be filled with hot glue to stop air leaks. If I could do it again I would move over just a hair to the right. When you are laying on your back under the dash swearing cause it is tight and hard to see things don't always go perfect. This is very acceptable IMO for the butt pain it was to get to. Also. DO NOT drill the hole and not put in a grommet. The vibration of the car will cut through your wire over time and short. That is bad!! Wizz |

Did you see my post about the passenger side cowl? There's an easily removable rubber plug there and a nice size hole.

I am not sure who's post it was but I saw something like that. I needed something on the drivers side. I could just use more wire and not drill but it I wanted a spot there. Thanks Wizz |

I was tinkering around today to figure out some wire runs and I found this firewall pass through on the driver's side today. Bear in mind I am a total novice who has never done any of this before so I think I just got lucky:
1-From the engine compartment look up and over where the 12V cable comes into the engine compartment from the battery(The red cable wrapped in the white tape is the 12V cable) Notice the hole above it in the picture. It's pretty tough to actually see because it's up so high. I took the pictures with my cell phone tuucked way in there. ![]() A zoomed out view to better orient you. The "wire" I'm holding in my fingers higher than the red 12V cable is actually my snake/fishing cable coming out from inside the car.(I have no idea what the corrugated tube thingy holds) ![]() 2-This is the inside view under the driver's side where the 12V power cable goes through from the inside of the car to the engine compartment.(I had to lie down upside down on the driver's seat in order to find this) After pulling back on the soft liner way up high over where the left foot rest thingy is you'll find a black rubber plug/fill-in thingy. Pull that out and Voila...the hole now pictured just above the red power cable will pass right through to the hole inside the engine compartment. No drilling needed(too bad considering I'm a dentist )![]() I hope I explained this clearly enough. If not just let me know and I'll try to take better pics or whatever, but now you know...no drilling required. (It goes without saying that grommits should be installed to avoid cutting the wires on the sheet metal).

Good job. I'll have to get under there and take a look at that. Very nice pics for such a tight space.

You know someone called me a homo for that post but 99.9% of everyone wants to do it or thinks it's interesting. Its not like you run around with it on 24/7. You turn it off when its not the time. I love that bar. I park my car on the street sometimes it's a nice low draw on the battery .....people slow down and drive carefully around my car while smiling or pointing. It lightens my heart that you enjoyed it.
Post up pictures. Wizzer
