So I won't be able to get a new camaro after all.
So, now that pricing is out it just confirms what I already knew - I won't be able to get a new camaro any time in the foreseeable future. Not only will the options I want end up costing over four grand more than I wanted to pay (29175, since I'm going to have to get the 2LT in order to get the four pack gauges, and I didn't want to pay over 25000), but with the amount of money I have left in my down payment account after my fiance's medical bills and whatnot, since she broke her hip about 6 weeks ago, my payments would be about 350 a month even if I financed it over 7 years, which there is no possible way I could afford. I guess I'll be driving a Hyundai for a while...

I'm sure you aren't the only one in this position. Keep an eye on the used market and you may be able to pick up what you wanted for 50-70% of MSRP in a year or two. There are bound to be people that over-estimate their ability to actually afford a new car.

I want the SS, RS or LT, but will be settling for the LS (which isn't much of a settle actually). Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. $22,995 is my budget.

I think the LS is quite different. No foglights and 18" steelies, I'm afraid that might make the whole car look less exciting. Figure in the missing interior features like audio controls on the steering wheel etc and there's quite some stuff missing. Of course you still have the same great engine etc, but the LS is missing a few useful and fun features imho. I'd really like to see some pictures of it...

I'll be waiting, too. :( I knew that I'd have to wait, and waiting can be good. When we save up for what we really want, then we can really appreciate our investment. So many people get things handed to them. I was given a Cobalt. It was fun, but it wasn't mine. Now, I drive a replacement for a car that was twice as good. In a couple of years, I'll be handing some salesperson a suitcase full of cash for a brand new Camaro SS that came out of my pocket. It'll all be worth it.

Within a few months discounts should be expected off MSRP. For instance, in Sept 2005 I ordered a Trailblazer SS (new release for 2006). I received it in December 2005. Sticker was over $42,000, drove it out the door after TTL, no trade-in, etc. for less than $37,000.
Keep the dream going, you are not that far away. Most important, keep within your budget.

I'm in the same boat - an unexpected week-long hospital stay ate right into the money I'd saved for the car. I'm glad I had the money for the bills, but I had a reality check with that and realized that it will now take a little longer to afford another car.

I'm in the same boat, the pricing is a little more above then what i thought it would be. Everyone kept saying "priced to compete with the mustang" so I figured it would be at the most 2k more then the mustang (base). Now that its over 3k more base for base I'll be saving a little longer then I thought.

What I want is going to be a bit higher than I expected. $15,000 down won't be sufficient to get the payment down to what I want. So I'm going to have to save a few months longer. |

But is still a good deal for those who need to wait, plus I think with it being new to the market and allready very desirable it probably wont loose value for at least 2yrs with people picking them up used right as they hit the lots, there probably wont be a whole lot out there used, Forgot to add thats based on the base price of $23,000 Last edited by 65bus; 10-13-2008 at 07:54 PM. Reason: forgot to mention base price figure |
