Anyone notice how many people here are 1st or 2nd in line?
Are we that much smarter?
Are we that much more prepared? Does the general public just not know they can pre-order? OR Is this car not selling as fast as we all thought it would? I'm leaning towards the last unfortunately. I'm actually surprised that the V6 isn't doing much better at taking charge of the allocations. At 300HP, it is the bigger bang for your buck over the V8. |

I assume that only the enthusiasts are buying right now.
The general public is more than happy and wait to buy one off the lot. My dealer has pre-sold half of its allocations and all are SS's so far. Luckily I was first. |

General public doesn't know. At this point if you arnt on these type of car sites or jalopnik, lln, autocenter, etc they wont know about it.
Ask any 100 people on the street 99 wont know you can order it.. Hell ask 10 dealers, 3 of the 10 wont know you can order it..

Until this last week I had NO interest in the 2010 Camaro. I was thinking of my next car purchase and looking at the Chargers. I ended up looking at the Challengers and someone on a Challenger forum mentioned the new info on the Camaro engines. Next thing I know I wander into the Camaro world at the last minute and just happen to get really interested the week of all the big news. Lucky me... my big wait was about 3 days.
I would say your average future buyer is like me... looking at the cars with interest but not so willing to go order one. I have a trade in to consider... something the dealer might not give me top dollar on if he knows I am waiting for my ordered car. Then there is the financing... interest rates are currently on the rise... who knows where they will be when the cars hit the lots. I am also thinking of incentives. Right now the news is hot and everyone wants this car (here at least). How many of the "buyers" here are really going to have a 2010 Camaro in their garages in the next year? Many of the guys who have been talking/dreaming/planning for this car since 2006 have yet to get their wives on board with the idea. Once the car hits the lot I predict the dealers will find the "hot" car to be much like all cars... not so easy to move. I want this car to do well... my dad's retirement is tied to GM. i hope GM sells 100,000 cars in the first year. I just expect to be able to walk into a dealership in June and pick from one of 2 or 3 Camaros on the lot. I won't get it JUST the way I dreamed... but it will be pretty close I am sure. |

A lot of us have been awaiting this car for a while and in my case I placed a deposit down 5 months ago to secure my place. I would assume quite a few members here are just as diligent, which is why they are here in the first place.

The General Public does not know anything about the Camaro. The first, albeit very brief, public introduction was last night during the TV show - My Own Worst Enemy.

I choose to believe that most of us here were anticipating the pre-order stage and were very prepared. You would be surprised how many people have no clue that the new Camaro is fastly approaching or even knew a new model was being developed.

Hell the dealers don't have much info on this, so why would John Doe know anything.

I was really, really surprised to learn that I was the first customer order at Classic in Grapevine. I thought I would be atleast 20 or 30 in the pecking order. What's funny is that its not even the closet dealership to me. I'm 2 hours north, but everyone here would not give me MSRP, wanted $1000 down non-refundable, and would not honor my GMS pricing.

Orange Challenger does not equal Orange Camaro
I agree completely. I have had soooo many people tell me they have seen the new orange camaro in town. Big dummies, I tell them. Thats a Dodge Challenger. Most people are clueless.
