Black Tar on Carpet - Advice Needed
I stepped in some black tar today and got some on the light gray carpet (4x4, not the Camaro)
 . I pulled off the majority of the surface grease off while trying not to grind it in more, but there's still plenty left on the upper fibers of the carpet. What is the best product or chemical to clean the grease off the carpet without damaging it, as in fading the color, etc? I had thought bug and tar remover but was hesitant about how it might discolor it. Any ideas would be welcome!

Not sure about working on tar but Goo Gone is great for taking things out of carpet and fabric. Just start off with small area will a little on towel and keep turning towel to clean side. Let me know the outcome.

Thanks for the replies guys, I'll try the mineral spirits first, see how that works, and then go to the Goo Gone if I need to get even more aggressive with it. Hopefully using both the mineral spirits and Goo Gone doesn't cause the carpet threads to dissolve or fall off, and I end up with a bare spot on the carpet!

The Goo Gone took wax out of a sofa cushion the kids neglected to tell us about. They flipped the cushion over and was there for a few weeks before detected. I started light with the Goo and after about 5 minutes it was completely gone, not a trace. I thought it would never be taken out.
