He's full of S***!!!

Dude, unless he has discovered some crazy not of this earth stuff. Or he has somehow come up with a way to surround your car with a 'laws of physics' breaking bubble, tell him to bite one.

Did he also offer you the force-field or protection package, good for 10 years, guaranteeing no other car can run into you?

Don't do it…… I was in the same boat as you are right now and feel like an idiot for falling for such a scam. Sure when I picked it up my 1st impression was pretty good, it shined really nicely from about 10 feet away, but once I got close to it I noticed the poor quality work that was done, I found swirls all over the car that were definitely not there before this stuff got put on...took it back and they tried to "fix" it with no success.

I took it to a detail shop and he said he could fix their mistakes and reapply it for less then half of what the dealer charged me. Also the detail shop said the 10 year warranty is the biggest scam out right now, it’s good for about a year at best.

Bottom line its way over priced and you can get just as good of a shine by waxing it yourself. I hope this helps

The best paint protection comes from the owner, and your regular maintainence of the car...BAR NONE!

You posted first but it was the same question I was going to ask tonight. I have preordered a 2011, and this issue has already come up at my dealer. They asked me to think about it before I take delivery.
This is not the first new car I preordered, nor the first new car purchased. Been buying new cars since 1970, so I have a little experience. At closing, dealers try to add on additional paint finishes, rust proofing, interior finish protection, extended warranties, etc. (GM is not offering extended warranties so read the fine print!).
Only my personal thought: If these dealers add ons (paint and interior finish protection, rust proving, etc.) were tried and proven then why the auto doesn’t come from the factory with these high dollar dealer applied add-on stuff?
I have my cars detailed and waxed by a professional each year (critical as I drive in winter weather 5 months per year and exposed to extreme road salts / road chemicals). You can wax your Camaro yourself once or twice a year with a good quality product. Rust proofing from the dealer? I have looked into this since I moved from Texas to Canada back in 2003. I use KROWN. My Texas 1996 Sebring trade-in had perfect paint, did not have one spot of rust, underside or body when I traded it for my deposit on a 2011 Camaro. I have my cars rust treated every year by KROWN. In the extreme weather I drive my cars, $100 per car, per year, is not important if the treatment prevents rust. My 1998 low mileage Riviera has never been driven in the winter, but I still have it detailed/waxed and KROWN treated each year. The under side of this 12 year old Buick is totally rust free.
Do your research in advance regarding dealer add-ons. I have been doing this for 40 years.
Just me, from only my personal experience, I will not pay the dealer for paint protection stuff, interior protection stuff, and rust protection stuff. If this stuff is so wonderful then why doesn't the auto come from the factory with all this stuff?

I agree with you completely about the add ons. This is the dealer's last chance to get his fingers into your wallet. When you are in the showroom buying the car, they tell you that you are so lucky to be buying the greatest and most reliable and rustproof car ever made. Then they bring you in to do the paper work with the finance guy. He knows that you have decided to buy the car. So now he tries to convince you that he can sell you some optional and expensive items to save you money in the future when an expensive part on your car that might not be as reliable as the salesman told you fails. He knows that you are "hooked" like a fish and he is going to reel you in. The only add on that I bought was the enhanced Lojac. I knew going in that I wanted this item. Here in the Bay State, it saves you 30% on your comprehensive insurance. I have one piece of advice about these miracle paint products, RUN FROM THEM. About twenty years ago there was a product called Auri that would restore a sun baked paint job from the Mojave Desert. Hell, you could even pour lighter fluid on it and light it on fire. It was indeed a miracle product according to the adds that were on for a few months. Three people that I know bought this crap and put it on their fairly new cars, (A Lincoln Mark, A Mercury Cougar and an Oldsmobile) It scratched, swirled and destroyed their paint jobs. I was waiting for them to get the stuff (it had to be ordered over the phone) to see if I wanted to use it on my motorcycle. I was very thankful that they went first.

thanks everyone. I am thankful for those of you that contextualized your answers. telling me to run or telling him to shove it.....well....that doesn't really help me.

my last question is what are your thoughts on the rust module?
thanks everyone!

What is a rust module? What I have is a 2001 Buick for the winters. Is that what a rust module is?

That and Simonize system 5 (only suppose to be available from dealers) is often listed on Ebay... I like the simonize system 5 stuff though... more like a wax rather than a solvent like Xlion.

You are paying for a warranty, not 10 year protection. If something actually did work that long, it would be sold at Walmart.

Talking to a buddy of mine at a detail shop -he said he'd put up his caranuba wax against any dealer "protection".

Yes, I am a dealer, and no I don't sugar coat reality.
