Canadian Destination Charges... Fair or Not?

I think this will make a good topic to poll as I want to know just how Canadians feel about GM's recent price release for destination charges within Canada.

They seem to think that a vehicle delivered from Oshawa to Niagara Falls ( ONT ) should cost us $1,400 CAN, however, they feel that if they ship the same car from Oshawa to Niagara Falls ( NY USA ) it should be cheaper at a cost of only $750 US. If $750 US @ an exchange rate of 25% would then = $ 937.50 CAN. So, where in the do they justify coming up with $1,400 and think it's at all fair?!

$750 US x 1.86666 ( 86.7% ) = $1,400 CAN ?? Good Math GM ... No wonder You're in financial difficulties!

Yeah I totally agree, I can't justify the price either I just rather drive to oshawa and pick the car up myself if that was possible, just ridiculous..

i agree it's retarded as well... the car is built in Canada. Someone in Texas, or California will pay $750, and someone who lives 45mins from the plant where it's being built will still pay $1400?! complete garbage!!!! that $1400 should be included in the Canadian MSRP prices IMO

Just retarded.... I can have a shipping company deliver a car from Texas to Montreal for $600-$700..... With the $40,995 raping G.M. is doing, the destination should be included....

I don't have an issue with a flat rate for all zones (though some years ago the charge was lower in the center of the country) but if Honda can ship the same size CAR across on the same train for less than a grand why is GM 500 BUCKS MORE?

Went by the FORD dealer today ...they have a good choice of all levels including pony's and verts. I think some on here have hit the nail.... when the 7000 are filled it may be a very slow sell to launch a new product at the start of a depression (not a recession ). Go look at what a 31 Chevy sold for after the crash in Oct 29 vs the MSRP a year earlier.

Winston Churchill pointed out that those who fail to understand history are doomed to repeat it.

GM and the dealers are ignoring history.

fyi...not that it matters to some...that pricing doesn't make much sense to me, but GM CANADA sets the prices...different entities, which create the difference in pricing...

That is true ....BUT ... GM USA decided where the car would be built and then TOLD GM Canada what to charge the parent for it.

In 1970 when you got an F body made in USA (Lordstown) and our dollar was higher than USA we got a CR on the window sticker of $700.00.

Did they? I was under the impression that GM Canada handles pricing of all their vehicles separately from GM USA.
