MGW vs Hurst
Is there anyone out there in cam5land that has had both a Hurst shifter and a MGW shifter on a 5th Gen. Or maybe you've had the opportunity to drive both of these shifters on 2010 Camaro?
If so, please post your comparisons and impressions of the two units. No flaming please, just your honest, fact based opinion. I only want to hear from you if have tried both. I am interested in your comments on 3 characteristics:
I currently have a Hurst on my car and it will soon be hanging on a nail on the wall of my garage. Alfie

Caverman did a nice write-up comparing stock to Hurst to MGW. This should help alot. I have the MGW and am very happy with it, but I also haven't compared it to anything other than stock. Can't imagine any shifter being better overall than the MGW. Some may have shorter throws but at the expense of increased effort. I'd post the link, but don't know how. Why are you swapping out your Hurst?

But, I hate the effort it takes to shift into each gear. I have to pull or push too hard to enter each gate. I suspect MGW may be the answer as Caveman's experience seems to suggest. I'm trying to avoid the "trial and error" method of finding the ideal shifter...don't want to have 3-4 shifters hanging on the garage wall. Alfie

My Hurst shifter currently has about 900 miles on it and it has the classic white ball. It will be for sale after my MGW is delivered in about a week or so. Are you seriously interested? PM me an offer...otherwise I'll put it on eBay and see what I can get for it.

I think you'll be real happy with the MGW. Just be patient and give it some time to break-in and the shifts are precise and effortless.

Stiff or hard to shift until it breaks in? How many miles for a break in? Alfie

The centering springs are a little on the stiff side when new. Will be most noticeable let's say when you are in neutral and go to shift to first. You're working against the spring that wants to center the shifter back to the 3rd 4th gear gate. I'd say give it a good month or so, but pretty much depends on how much you shift as opposed to how many miles. Once broken-in the spring tension is perfect. There was a thread several months back where an MGW shifter was installed and and the owner wasn't happy with it. George from MGW explained to them about giving it some time to break-in, which was done, and than the owner loved it.

Just installed MGW last nite.....While it is stiff ....and will break in .....Its simply incredible.....Well made ....and incredibly positive. There is no guessing the gear and the ability to just shift with your hand and wrist is absolutely perfect.....
