Replacement Stick for my Hurst shifter

I installed a longer Hurst replacement handle today; part #538-7238. What a difference 2.5" of additional leverage makes. Of course, the throw is slightly longer with the longer stick, but now I can shift it in and out of the gear positions with notably less effort.

The gear engagement remains as positive and precise as it was previously with the shorter stick. As you can see in the photos, the ball is a little higher, but it's still very comfortable. It looks a little old school that way and I like it. Anyone here remember Big Daddy Roth and the shifters depicted in his art work?

To sum it up; in my opinion, the original shorter stick would unquestionably be better suited for competition driving, while this longer replacement stick is ideal for all-around street and recreational driving. I was willing to trade a little throw for less shifting effort and I got what I bargained for. Despite, the longer throw, I did a couple of 1st-to-2nd full throttle power shifts at 6K rpm with ease.

At 103 lbs, my wife struggled with the harder shifting original stick. She is going to be happy now. I have a smooth Hurst shifter, a S/C Camaro, and a happy wife...life is good.

Do you have a pic like this with the old arm? If you do can you post, It look good and as long as the wife is happy then your life is vary good.

Its all about the comfort! I put this shifter knob on out of my collection,"going for all black inside on the black chrome powder coated stick" it probably does the same thing as a long rod since its heavy..... its the size of a billiard ball but feels more like a grapefruit in my hand, back to the case with it and back to the white issue knob until I find a black one I like.

I think the taller handle both looks and feels better even with the stock shifter. Here is my repacement using the stock M6 shifter and the sleeve and knob from MGW;

Going to call you Herman Munster now, that stick reminds me of thier car when the show came on, LOL It's pretty tall, I like leaning my elbow on the console. that stick wouldn't work for me.

hang onto that knob!..very few of those were made!!!

I rest my elbow on my console and the shifter ball is not too high. It's just below the CD slot.

Also, we lift our elbows off the console while actually shifting...don't we?

With the hurst ya, but just tooling around town I wrist the stock shifter, like a wet noodle, LOL
