Bump for an update on the speedo recalibration.
Have we determined whether it can be done without doing a complete retune?

With the 3.73s you will go from about 2000 RPM at 70 MPH in 6th gear to 2300 RPM. With the 4.10s you will be doing a little over 2500 RPM. In my opinion 3.73 is the way to go.

I've been told that manual V8 6 speed cars do not need a speedo re-calibration with a gear change as the speedo works off the abs sensors on the wheels. Either that information is bogus or there is something different in the way the V6 cars speedo works ??

Sounds like a load to me. Whether or not your abs is used, the RPM's of your transmission are also factored into calculating you speed. Modern cars all have a sensor on the side of the housing that monitors the transmissions rpms. And since a higher gear ratio means that your transmission is spinning at a higher rpm to make the drive shaft rotate one revolution, your speedometer is off. Your car will read that your going faster than you actually are.

So it makes sense to just get the full Trifecta tune and the speedo recalibration after getting the gears done...Thanks for the confirmation!

Sorry didn't post this earlier but just to close the loop, Trifecta did adjust the speedo to calibrate to the new gears. I have a Vbox that I use to compare my actual speed to the speedo. Works great. I would suggest 3.73 for everybody. If anyone goes for the 4.11's please post your results! Thanks Chase for your help on this!

I just sent hutter performance an email for a 3.73 gear change w/speedo recal quote, I'll post their response when I get it.
The price is 1400 with speedo cal, I think I'm going with this. Last edited by h2oplay; 02-04-2011 at 04:15 PM. |

you don't get to keep the cable, for future tuning. After you complete your tune to how you want it, you send it back. If you plan on changing anything else (ie add more performance parts), you'll have to pay more money for another tune. If you pay the $600 up front, you can change the tune or revert back to your stock tune whenever you want.
