Prequel to a Camaro Project

As I am currently driving a Formula, I don't have the Camaro I want to build right now, but I'm trying to figure out what it would take to build the car I want at, of course, the lowest possible price. The Navy doesn't pay me enough to be too ambitious. This is where I will assemble my thoughts until I decide to buy a Camaro to build. I am planning on going with the lowest possible bidder on the parts I want. Vendors are more than welcome to participate in this thread and even contribute their lower priced parts for consideration.

Any feedback or recommendations are always more than welcome. You guys always have good ideas. That's why I love this place.

2011 Chevrolet Camaro 2SS A6 VR

EXTERIOR
GM Heritage Grille (92208704)
—from GM Parts House; unpainted, like a boss
Unrestricted Motorsports Dovetail Spoiler
—direct from Unrestricted Motorsports, consider the stock one for sale
Street Scene lower grille with ducts (950-85224)
SLP blackout kit (100044A)
—best deal is a tie between LM Performance and Summit Racing
Fog Lights at Night Harness
—Gen5DIY allows for use of fogs at night
VHT Niteshades tint spray
—expect a DIY thread on tail lights and side markers sometime in the future
Lemans stripes (vendors, talk to me)
black lightweight rims
—would probably trade RS rims for 1LE if anyone wants them
functional mail slot
—a Gen5DIY project
more aggressive rear diffuser than stock
—something I may consider, but not sure yet, been talking to 2SSRS
MRT Louver
—at the posted price is prohibitively expensive, but will consider eventually

INTERIOR
dash light DIY1 or dash light DIY2 using these parts
—Gen5DIY
ABL door mod DIY
Remin Real Carbon Fiber dash kit
—best price appears to be CarID

PERFORMANCE
1LE strut tower brace (22756880)
—planning on purchasing as part of a large order from patrickt at GM Parts House
1LE 3.91 gears (22813040)
—no link available, but plan on purchasing with other GM parts through patrickt
Stainless Power Headers with High-Flow Catalytic Converters
—Auto Agenda is the place to go
Stainless Works Catback Exhaust
—Auto Agenda and I have been talking
conservative tune that I can take nationwide (vendors, talk to me)
VMAX throttle body
—coming from JDP Motorsports
LSXr intake manifold
—coming from JDP Motorsports with all upgrades available in the very distant future
VaraRam Tune Intake
—based on the heat transfer properties of plastics versus steel, it is undesirable to have metal as the intake material if possible; someone give me an awesome price
GM 1LE track package suspension components (23102311)
—plan to do this purchase through GM Parts House, but I have a link for the sake of sharing here
LS3 CNC-Ported Heads (88958758)
—would like to order from GM Parts House again, but will depend on price

WEIGHT REDUCTION
Enkei Raijin 18" Wheels
fiberglass quarters
fiberglass doors
fiberglass trunk
fiberglass hood
AUDIO
Xplod 10" sub and 300W amp
10" sub box (vendors, talk to me)

Very Ambitious!
Good luck, subscribed! I also want to see some pricing and Vendors competing for business in this thread, lol

I do, too. Obviously, I would need to get good deals on a great number of parts. Much of this would take some patience, and I have to get a Camaro SS first. This is a sort of brainstorm.

I honestly think all Vendors should compete for our business and some i know who stand out from the rest will most likely be the ones to post here first! But it is a very interesting concept that i also did when i first came onto this forum!

I look forward to this coming to fruition.

I remember the first ideas you had years ago...this one idea looks like you can pull it off, and should be pretty stinking awesome!

Prequel to a Camaro Project

I figured it was time to update this thread. Here's the plan as it stands today. Forgive the cheesy "stage" monikers. They just help me organize my thoughts. It's my build thread and I can write whatever I want!

Stage 0: How It Should Have Been Made
  • Custom red seat stitching (complete)
  • Gen5DIY: ACS Functional Mail Slot (complete)
  • Gen5DIY: LED fog lamp bulbs (complete)
  • Gen5DIY: red LED dome light (complete)
  • Gen5DIY: Dash ABL (failed install, looking for help)
  • Gen5DIY: RS headlamps with custom harness (saving up)
  • ********: RCA harness for Boston Acousics system (complete)

Stage 1: Breathe Easy
  • ********: 10" driver-side stealth enclosure (complete)
  • RDP: Cold Air Inductions intake (complete)
  • RDP: SLP thermostat (complete)
  • RDP: Dynatech Supermaxx catback exhaust with X-pipe (complete)

Stage 2: Tune Strongly Recommended
  • SLP: 1 3/4" ceramic-coated long-tube headers (complete)
  • RDP: BBK 102mm throttle body (distant future)
  • RDP: SCT X4 (complete)
  • RDP: Edelbrock Supercharger (saving up)
  • Chevy: 1LE 3.91 gear kit (distant future)

Stage 3: Track Performance
  • RDP: DSS halfshafts (saving up)
  • Chevy: ZL1 or 1LE sway bars(distant future)
  • Chevy: 1LE strut tower brace (distant future)
  • aftermarket bushings (distant future)
  • dimpled rotors (when my rotors die)
  • better pads (when my pads die)
  • super sticky tires (when my tires die)

Stage 4: Because Racecar
  • Jannetty: AEM UEGO gauge (saving up)
  • MRT dovetail spoiler (ridiculously distant future)
  • forged wheels (ridiculously distant future)
  • winter tires for stock wheels (when I have forged wheels)

Stage 5: Resurrection
  • Chevy: LS3 with hot cam (when my engine dies)
  • Chevy: ZL1 driveline (when my driveline dies)
  • race-prepped auto transmission (when my transmission dies)

Why did I pick these parts and vendors? All of this is subject to change, so feel free to give me feedback on your experiences. More information from Camaro5 means a better build.
  • Gen5DIY is an awesome vendor who answered all my questions. Ofer is a huge help, and I would recommend anyone considering one of their custom projects call him.
  • ******** took great care of me and is known to produce high-quality subwoofer enclosures for the Camaro. They make an exclusive RCA harness for the Camaro, ensuring that I didn't have to tap any wires. As a complete novice, this made my install easy without paying a professional.
  • Jannetty Racing has an excellent owner. Ted has taken some time to talk to me about my build. Whether or not anything on this thread comes from him is no indication of the quality of tuner that he is. If you aren't at least considering Jannetty for your build, you need to consider it. He also has a unique program that offers custom dyno tuning with parts that you order from him. This is a great deal not offered by any other vendor to my knowledge.
  • RDP Motorsports also has a great owner. Steve also took some time to talk to me and offered me solid input on my build. Most of my parts are coming from RDP for good reason.
  • Cold Air Inductions has the best results, according to Steve at RDP. I originally considered Roto-Fab due to the OEM-like flexible joints, but I've searched for justification of my concerns and found them unsubstantiated. While I'm still confident that Roto-Fab is the more OEM-styled and probably safer intake, CAI brand has been recommended so many times on Camaro5 that I can't ignore it.
  • BBK is the recommended throttle body due to the 102mm size getting the best results on RDP's dyno. This is best installed with forced induction.
  • ACS Composite is the only brand making the mail slot functional to my knowledge. While I had no choice, I will point out that the item I received is of OEM quality, and I look forward to having it installed.
  • AEM was the recommended company by Jannetty for my data-logging gauge. I will probably buy on eBay due to the ridiculously low price there. My last experience with AEM was on a 2005 Cobalt for an intake.
  • SCT is one of several tuning options available for Jannetty and RDP. The X4 is a great diagnostic device, capable of identifying codes and communicating with a tuner via PC. While I find the PC requirement aggravating as a Mac user, it is a nice piece of equipment.
  • Chevrolet Performance offers some of the OEM items I want for my build. As much respect and enthusiasm as I have for aftermarket options, I'm convinced that GM builds the better sways bars, strut brace, and some other goodies that I'll be using. If anyone wants to try to prove me wrong, please proceed.
