What ever happened with all that Vararam Hype?

Curious I recall when it was coming out i wanted one so bad then heard all the issues with them and the radiator being loose and decided on another CAI.

I was just browsing Camaro Performers and saw a tiny blurb on the 40-50hp gains and I am still shocked they are still making such claims.

I dont see much posted on the boards regarding this kit anymore.

Yeah such absurd HP claims for a CAI and why most never even bother to buy or post about it. Plenty better out there.

Many people here are running them, the initial design got ALOT of flak because of the factory MAF. Biggest downfall is the non-compatibility with aftermarket power adders.

Personally I love mine, nothing makes more sense to me as an engineer than an OTR design (Especially in the desert). Lower (relatively) IAT is always a good thing.

Also anyone who believes more than 5ish HP without a tune out of a CAI better see a doctor.

I actually still think it's one hell of an intake.

Quite frankly, if I didn't have the signed rotofab radiator cover, the VR would still be in my car. Yes, it actually DID make phenomenal gains. Turns out that the main issue was the massive amount of air flowing over the MAF and the MAF not being able to properly read it right....something to that effect. I finally got a new MAF for the last VR intake and it was a total different intake compared to the two I had tried before.

There was NO bucking with the last intake at all.

It was truly incredible.

The radiator issue was a non-issue. Everything stayed in place. I put on a good 20k miles with the radiator not screwed in. No problems there.

And, if you are curious about my honesty and integrity on the fact that it ran like a champ....I have nothing to gain on this one...why would I say it was that great if I didn't use it anymore? No point in it. If it were crap, I'd say it was.

Yep...one bad ass intake, if you ask me. I'm glad I got my personally signed cover by all the folks at the Oshawa plant, but I sure as hell miss the power from the VR!!!

I still love mine and the design makes the most sense to me. I'm sticking with it.

Yeah all fine and probably a good intake but why lie and claim 50HP increases??
Be real and state you are just another 5-10 HP intake like most of the rest out there.

I really enjoy my Vararam. The claims are based on driving conditions with the hood closed. It is also BHP not RWHP. With the hood closed, most intakes will take hot air from the engine compartment where the Vararam still gets fresh clean air. It even gets better the faster you go. So if you take everything in account it could give you that much bhp compared to stock. I think 40-50 is also with a tune.

In back to back dyno pulls of stock versus Vararam no tune they are making around 20 rwhp. That is a very solid result. The only other combination that gets that kind of improvement on it's own is the CAI Inc with a scoop.

The ~40hp gains are the tune versions so a good part of that 40 is the tune... I love my VR! It out performs most on the market.

Really?

On our completely stock 2010 Camaro SS (automatic) from simply bolting on the New Era OTR air intake system, we gained 22rwhp and 24lb/ft rwtq. With the addition of a custom PCM tune on this particular car, we were able to gain an additional 8rwhp and 4lb/ft rwtq for an overall gain of 30rwhp and 28lb/ft rwtq!

I love mine. Looks great on the car. Sounds AWESOME. (gives that old school open air cleaner 4 barrel sound) and seems to run better with it.

I really don't care about 5 or 10 HP either way when it makes 426hp to start with. I drive my car, I enjoy the way it looks, sounds and feels. The Vararam compliments all of those things.

Also, their customer service is top notch. I felt confident buying it from them because even if I wasn't satisfied, they would do what it took to make it right.

If I was running a V8 I would be getting this intake for sure. 20 HP gain w/o a tune is nothing to sneeze at, and tuned Vararam getting you 40-50 hp gain is awesome.

I have a v6 obviously, and I am running the Injen CAI but if I still had a stock intake on and was in the market for an upgrade, I would have a hard time choosing between the Vararam and Injen.

I love mine too!! I purchased my first Vararam back in 2005 for my Corvette. I was sold on it back then.
