Painting rear bezels questions.

So..:P
Ive had a couple projects today
One one was removing my rear bezels and painting them black

It took me a while took get my bezels off but now I would have no problem removing them .

So Now comes the sanding+ painting.

I have all my paint ready ...
my primer , gloss black paint , my clear .
And I have my bezels taped off pretty well already

But Im still really new to this so I have some questions

I've watched some videos and read a good bit .

The video I'm trying to go off of is called spray painting 101
http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=971D5d28UFE

It starts off by saying to sand down with 600 grit .
Spray down your primer
Then sand again with 600 grit .
Spray your paint
Spray your clear
Wet send w/ 1000 grit
Finish it off with 1500 grit
Then buff it out .

so I just started sanding with my 600 grit . But since I really don't know what im doing " except ruffing it up a bit "
- I don't know when to stop
- my main question is if this wet sand paper will do, it's the only 600 grit I could find at home-depot . Does it have to be dry ?

I also painted mine. sand them with the 600 till the gloss is gone. chrome will not have a mirror finish. wipe them clean with acetone (wear gloves). use plastic primer. light coats and no runs. you can lightly sand primer after it dries to smooth it out. put a base coat layer of gloss black. put a light coat on about 10-15 mins apart. then clear coat a few coats. let them dry. take the 1500 grit with some water and wet the sand paper and bezels. could also use some soap and water. lightly sand the orange peel, then wash clean and let dry. the use some rubbing compound and a rag and rub the hell out of the bezels till the clear coat shines. then wipe clean.
I'm not a pro but thats what i did and it came out ok.

That works for flat black, gloss black would have orange peel.

You should be fine. Also use dental floss to floss the bowtie off

Unless you also want to redo your vinyl, I wouldn't use anything but dental floss on that bow tie.

The hardest part was getting the bezels off. Wrapping itself wasn't too bad, though it did take some time to work around the curves. I'd suggest looking on youtube for some videos on the wrapping process. It's nice because you can go back and get the bubbles out afterwards (which I had to do after looking at it in different light). I didn't use a heat gun, but I plan to when I do the gauge cluster trim/center console trim to help it stretch better. I'm also using it on the dash/door trim as soon as I get some more of the wrap. I did a test run with the shorter left dash trim piece and it looked awesome.

I used metrorestyling.com, it's about $25 per 1' x 5' section. It was the 1080 CF, not the Di-noc (which I believe is a matte version). http://www.metrorestyling.com/3M-Sco...m1080-cf12.htm

You can also go to 3M's website and request free samples of their vinyls as it is available in different colors/finishes.

I'm really happy with how it turned out and so is the wife because she didn't want me to do it if it looked like I did it lol

I'm going to get back to work probably tomorrow .

For info on the carbon fiber vinyl.
Headlightarmor.com has an amazing product better than 3m.

They have a thread on this site somewhere . Google " Camaro5 headlight armor carbon fiber"

Good deal. 3M latest material is thin and very easy to tear if you are not careful. We have looked at it as well as others on other forums we support. The thoughts are the same, our material is easier to work with and most think it looks better.

More info on our material in our vendor thread here for those interested in the Carbon Fiber look.
