This is really a big problem on them all, someone needs to come up with a simple fix, like the Qjet filter/fuel line fix. that 9 out of 10 people cross threaded. Could sell 10s of 1000s per day. [ every 3 sec someone strips one out
]a helicoil will work though, they work on spark plugs. |

But he said the O2 body was stripped. Heli-coil will only fix the bung.

he has made it seem to be unfixable, which means the bung is stripped out. |

It is the sensor that is stripped. the threads were completely sheared off, i'll try and get a pic later not the most computer savy though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure all o2 sensors are universal when it comes to thread size and connector type. You should be able to pick a generic one up at any automotive place in your town. No need to order one thru chevy.

GM #12617332 But give them time and they will come down in price. In the mean time try telling the dealer you would be willing to pay $95 and see what they say. |

Seeing as how a lot of people are having problems with this, is there a trick that will help to remove them without stripping them?
I will be installing new headers in about 2 wks when they arrive and wuld like to try and avoid this problem! |

Yep, put a healthy coating of anti-sieze on the threads prior to assembly. But since GM didn't do that the only thing you can do now is spray some PB thread spray 1 or 2 days ahead of time.

Yes cut the pipe first and on the bung grind in too it so you can have it brake in 1/2 that is how i did it.

just buy a new one, the way you been squakin around like a chickin with your head cut off , you made it seem like you have to buy a new header, not a simple 02 sensor.Since its so new, Id bitch to the dealer, GM should of known to use antisieze and it stripping the thread out so soon is an obvious defect that they should cover a new one. As its a part defect, that should be covered under the O2 warranty when GM bought them. |

A new car and all new parts, it should take several years before parts removed start losing the threads. It should be cover by the O2 company but since GM failed to use antisieze, it falls on them. They know better. Id push the issue, a smart dealer will just cough it up and make him happy. |

You sir are very wrong. A smart dealer will say "well the threads wouldn't have stripped if you didn't alter from factory form."
Also, this is not anything new. For some reason, car markers do not use antisieze on O2 sensors. I remember doing headers on multiple mustangs none of them had it. Perhaps they feel it can interfere with the sensors function if antisieze came into contact with it. Thus, none of this falls on chevy or the sensor mfg. Both of them as well as the dealer service dept can and should argue that the sensor was undamaged and functioning properly until tampered with in order to install aftermarket parts (which also void factory warranty 95% of the time).
