The tire is the thing. There's really no advantage in having a 275 tire mounted on a 9.5-inch rim vs. a 9-inch rim. The same applies to the rear wheels. If you're looking to go with 315s, you don't really gain anything by going to 11-inch rims instead of 10.5-inch rims. All you're doing is creating clearance problems that you don't have with the 10.5-inch rims.

The main reason to go to a wider rim is to accommodate a wider tire.

If I am not mistaken, the wider rim WILL optimize your contact patch. Hence more grip and better handling. Will the average person notice this, probably not.

This is absolutely true in theory. However, when you have a 12.5-inch tire, the difference in contact patch when mounted on a 10.5-inch rim vs. the 11-inch rim is negligible. The difference in wheel-well clearance is significant.

As long as the rim size falls within the window of recommended widths for a given tire size, the amount of tire you have on the ground is essentially the same. When it comes to running 275s up front, I would definitely buy two new 9-inch stockers before I would go to the trouble and expense of widening the 8-inch stockers to 9.5 inches. By using the OEM rears up front, you also move the outside edge of the wheel outboard a little because of the difference in offset.

Is there a way I can run 20/10inch fronts and 20/11inch rears? What size spacers would I need? Same offset as stock. Was gonna put the 275s on the front 10inch wide wheel. Just kicking the idea around since I found a good deal on aftermarket wheels. Thoughts...

Alright, here are some pics of the stock 9" rears moved to the front and another pair of rears widened to 10.5". Sorry the car is dirty. I really like the 9" up front. I think the rears would look better moved out 15mm.

And a shot of the Whipple just for the heck of it. Been waiting a month for my CAI, so the filter on there now is temporary.

How long was the turn around time?

Weldcraft was about 5 weeks when I had mine done. I've had them for awhile though. Tires were on backorder.

nervermind, do any of you know if a 9.5 inch wide +35 offset fit in the front? i found better sizes and would put my 275/40/20 0n the front, but would i need anything for the 9.5inch wide wheel in the front to fit? like a 12mm adapter? would that work?

I'm not sure. I know you don't need any spacers/adapters if you run the 9-inch OEMs up front.

Glad you finally got your tires. I see the pics have been up for a week (I've been out of touch fighting fires lately).

The rear stockers look great up front. I think you're right about moving the rears out a little. I went 20mm just so I wouldn't have to cut the threads on the studs, but 15mm would probably look better.

How do you like that Whipple so far?

FYI, the 10.5" wheels with no spacers and 315 tires may rub during aggressive driving such as an autocross.

The Whipple is good. Still needs more power though. Had to stop racing at the LS Fest due to a leak at the oil cooler. The drag radials were too new to hook very well.

Ok kmcd,
I have read the entire thread but kept getting interrupted at work so I just want to do a short summery. You widened the rears to 10.5 and are running a 305 tire correct? Also you had to adjust the break cable and lines not to rub? The rear spacers are for looks and not necessary?
The reason I ask is because I want to do this for running at the track. I think like my last girlfriend, the extra inch and a half makes a huge difference lol. But I am not really into putting in spacers and cutting the lug bolts if I don’t have to.
Also just an FYI I had JDP Motorsports install Pfadt sub-frame bushings and rear arm package. This helped with wheel hop and gave me 2 – 3 10ths on the stock PZeros. The rear end “plants” a lot better. But I would like to run the 555R or the M/T 3727R.
Your thoughts please and thanks.
Also I did buy a couple months ago a complete set of stock wheels and tires (brand new) for $1,000. So I do have donor wheels.
