I had this burning wire smell from an inverter that ran my CCFL's...do you have any inverters?

I swapped my AAC ones out (i had an extra) and the smell went away...it was shorting out somehow

No inverter. I can still smell the burn slightly whenever my car is completely warmed up and running but not if my car is cold. The good thing is, I found out that the smell is not coming from the engine itself and that's a relief. It smell like is coming somewhere from the master cylinder area. I don't know, I am still confused as what in the world it could be. All electrical components are running just fine so I don't think it's the wires, but everything else is working perfect so the search continues....

can't remember... does your brake fluid reservoir leak at all? Was either the Mustang or the Camaro but one of them the plastic tank seemed to always be damp with brake fluid... possibly a drop or two on something hot?

I had a big issue with the brake master cylinder on this car. After a few runs at the track last summer, I popped the hood and fluid was everywhere! Took it to the dealer and apparently there is a TSB for it, they replaced the stock cap that I had with a different one and took care of the issue.

We see melted shopping bags on exhaust all the time but I think you already checked that. With the C5 & C6 corvettes we always find them sucked into in front of the radiator/condensor causing over heating. But someting is still causing it. I'm staying tuned to see what you find.

Just wondering, if overheating the coolant temp gauge should tell us right? Or is this like the OLM where it doesn't tell you until kaput?

Just wonderin...

so.. I found out WTH the darn smell was...

Something splashed on the driver side exhaust pipe right near the 2nd o2 pipe. I remember seeing something clear on the same location when I was doing my inspection but overlooked it. It really didn't look like it was anything at first lol. Now I know it was definitely something, because now it's black and hard after it burned out.. I still don't know WTH this thing is that splashed onto my exhaust but it look nasty.

Here it is....

It def look nasty as hell.. I still don't have a clue what in the world it is that got on the pipe. Before it burned out it looked like clear hand sanitizer. It burned out on the pipe real thick and hard. I can't even get it off. No more smell though..

my 2015 2LT has been doin this a couple weeks.
i inspected underneathe car . didnt see any melted wires, or anything on exhaust

BUT under the hood , i did notice a 4 inch section of wire mold on drivers side injector harness was completely missing and about another 4inches crumbled in my hands when i manipulated it.

i ended up replacing about 15 inches of that wire mold and then put some larger wire mold over that and taped it up.

SO maybe bits of that plastic keep floating around and burning on exhaust?

i will need to do another underneath inspection to verify

i did a 2nd inspection from front to midcar.

theres no sign of melted garbage plastic on the exhaust bottom
the smell is not out of the exhaust

im hoping it was melted plastic chunks falling on exhaust from top
