None of your questions have anything to do with the thread topic. Who is buying corvette's? Corvette guys thats who, most of which would not give a dime for a camaro.
My wife has a new 2LT we have yet to meet a vette that didn't wave, we are all bowtie guys in the eyes of car enthusiast. So everyone is not buying a camaro like you say. The vette is the oldest car still in production and for a good reason. They sell.

Mine is. I've got 11k miles, upgraded the sways and put a set of Borla Stingers on it, but I've been very tame w/ it. On top of that, it's never been in the rain or spent a night outside.

I ordered an SS today, so the '08 will be for sale if you're interested

Camaro is the affordable Vette with better styling.

There are two ways to look at this.

The reverse is that the Vette might have done better because of the absence of the Camaro for a good bit of years. The thing I'd be curious about is to see how many Vette owners owned a Camaro previous to buying their new baby.

Obviously the economy has nothing to do with this either huh?? The Vette has gone through slow sales times before and it will again!! No matter how you chose to slant your opinions the vette is a specialty car, it's not for everyone and it was never designed to "outsell" anything else in the GM fleet!! Most people who want the vette will not be impressed with the Camaro's stock performance, they are not in the same category so the comparisons can stop there!

As for the "I see vette's everywhere" comment, that's what GM hope's you will be saying about the Camaro in a couple of years. There have always been fewer vette's produced, that's the nature of the beast. I'll be buying a gently used 08Z06 next year myself, as if you look around there are many more "garage queens" in the vette world than you might think!

Um...well...I chose option "3".

A Corvette is a Corvette, and a Camaro is a Camaro. Different vehicles for different people, regardless of a similarity in performance; they are directed at entirely different markets.

I think with the intro of the Z28 (assuming they do it right, which I think they will), the base C7 Corvette will start at just below the Z06s level of performance. And I believe they will hike the price a few grand accordingly. So ALL coupe performance levels will be covered from least to most with a full lineup of the daunting duo: V6 Camaro < V8 Camaro < Z28 Camaro < base Corvette < Z06 < ZR1. But none will interfere with the other.

Back on topic, though...Camaros are eating into Corvette sales...but not significantly enough to notice.

I don't think "traditional" Vette owners and "traditional" Camaro owners are the same breed. Don't get me wrong because I know there are some out there that own both, but this is my point.

Vette owners are sports car people and Camaro people are more of the middle of the road types. None of us was having this conversation in the 80's and 90's about these two cars. The only thing that has changed is that the Camaro is a totally "new" car with some styling cues from the past. While the Vette is a modern American sports car through and through.

I've only owned one vette in my life and didn't care for it at all. I just didn't feel comfortable in it, but that's just my personal preference. I've normally owned mid-sized GM cars Monte Carlo SS and Chevelles. This new Camaro has me excited about GM again.

Personally I appreciate that the Vette has stuck around so long. I believe that it allowed for the Camaro to come back. I am glad that GM scrapped the idea of a front wheel drive Camaro. It broke my heart when they ruined the Monte Carlo SS.

These are just my ramblings on this subject. If it weren't for the Vette there wouldn't be a Camaro period.

If your a true GM nut like I am you will remember that this isn't the first time that Camaro and Corvette markets have overlapped. The very high horsepower Camaros of the late 60's and the early 70's were higher than the entry level Corvettes of the day.

Thought I'd share my reasons for buying a new Camaro:

I'm not going to lie, when I first saw it in the first Transformers movie, I fell in love with it. However, at the time it was completely out of the realm of possibility with the direction my life was headed. Fast forward a few years, and the wife decided after 7 years of marriage that "she wants different things out of life." I'm turning 30, have worked hard to accomplish a lot in the past ten years, and am looking forward to having a car that will be fun to drive and help me to enjoy what I've accomplished. Do I think it will be cool to have a car that looks like the one from the movie? Yes, but I've always been a nerd like that. Growing up, I used to want a DeLorean! I've always admired the Camaro and Firebird, and out of all the cars I've owned my favorite was my first, an '86 Firebird. I truly believe my new Camaro will finally replace that as favorite car I've ever owned - and will be one hell of a thrill to drive!

Plus, the Camaro seems to trump the Vette in build quality and styling (I hate the goofy Ferrari immitation headlamps) and think even if they were the same price the Camaro would be a better quality car. It wouldn't be as fast or as good on the track, but as reliable and fun commuter transportation the Camaro wins.
Wrong all the way around. A 1LT 'stripper' Corvette has more standard features than a 2SS+RS. for about 3k more new.

Build quality on Corvettes is also far superior to Camaro's. Far more problems are presented about peoples cars on this forum than on CorvetteForum and those people are far more anal than Camaro owners.

The 2009 Corvette was offered here in Canada for $52,000. Down from it`s starting price of $77,000. That made the best built performance car in the world, dollar for dollar, that much better. Bar none. I don`t think it`s possible to compare a Camaro to a Vette because they`re on different planets. That being said, the Camaro is fresh, a does turn heads. It`s built at Oshawa because they always produce the #1 cars in North America!!

I wonder if this will be the other way around now the the new vette is out and many people not liking the rear on the 2014. I would say it will hurt ZL1 sales more than anything if it does at all.
