Tire ratings...

Generally 160+ tires are sport/performance tires that have to be made to more exacting standards, so in turn they cost more....

Anyone know what the max speed (stock) was for the '02 Z/28? I got mine up to somwhere between 155-160 ..... I was tryin to watch the road instead of the speedo..... It seemed like it had plenty more to give, but I had to let off for a sharp curve. Yea we even have some curves in West Texas, where I was when I had the '02.

Did (do) they have the speed limiter? I was not planning on going 150+, just kind of kept passing the lines on the speedo and the next thing I knew 155, but I still had more pedal... I may have been just about to hit it (gov)... but I was definitely about to hit a 80 mph max curve... so I never maxed it out.

I hope they're an improvement over the PZero Nero that came on my mustang. I did not like those tires at all. Never felt comfy on wet roads. I had the limiter removed but I've only topped 140 a few times. Not enough road....... and they're usually too busy anyway.... if not with cars, then with critters.

Anyways, the SRT8 Chargers and Challengers allegedly top out north of 170 and they are heavy and definitely not built with aerodynamics in mind. I would expect no less than 175 in a Camaro after the limiter is removed. 2005 Mustangs had aftermarket tunes within a month or two of release.

The aftermarket will move quick on this car as demand will be huge with a capital H.

a friend of mine ran his bone stock 2002 Z28 in the "Texas Mile" or whatever that open road race is in the Big Bend area... we removed his speed limiter before the event and he topped out at 168.6... this was a six speed car and it had '99 Corvette wheels on it.

hmmm... I think you just haven't gotten that fast yet... I'll check your car while we're in route to Indy... I have a feeling you have a soft governor at 160mph and your speedo is off by about 8-10% at that speed

does the speedo go any higher than 160? i couldn't tell from the pics. one thing i liked about the goat is that it went all the way to 200, so w/ mods and better tires, u could actually tell what speed you were going, not that any of us would go over the speed limit...

The higher the numbers displayed on the speedometer, the more closely bunched together they have to be. If the speedometer goes to 200 mph, then driving around town in 45 mph zones (and less) will utilize less than 1/4 of the dial. Actually less than that even, since the ends of the dial don't complete a full circle (like a clock does). Since modern electronics drives the speedometer, I have often wondered why a car manufacturer couldn't provide a button that switched the speedometer display between two different mph ranges. Position one would illuminate the speedometer with numbers from 0 to 70 (allowing the driver to more easily see his actual mph when driving around town), while position two would display from 0 to 140(+?) for highway driving or driving in organized racing situations.

160 for the V6, 180 for the V8. That's without limiters.

so i wonder if there is a second digital speedo (not sure if there is, but i would like one) and you max out the analogue, can you just watch the digital work its way up through the higher triple digits?
