It's slightly annoying though - as it keeps coming back.....

Once during startup is fine GM....

if the temperature is hovering around the setpoint it will come on every time it dips below that point.. if it didn't and say you started your car when the temperature was 30 and got one warning and drove to a place where the temperature was 45 and then went back to a temperature of 35 then you would never get the warning, this way you get it again to remind you...

Most cars give you that warning now. My old car used to give it at 39 degrees in CA!

I think they assume that if its 32 degrees out or 29. You would already know Ice was possible. So no warning indicator. This is a guess but, seems logical.

Ever heard of "Freezing Rain"?

Warm air rises. It can be 29 on the ground and much warmer at 2000' where the clouds are.

Precipatation in the air does not have time to freeze before hitting the ground.

Ice Warning Below 37 Degrees Fahrenheit

I got the ice warning today three times, under slightly differing conditions:

1. I was driving, and it was just above 37 degrees out when I started driving. Temperature was dropping. About 20 minutes into the drive, as the outside temp hit 37 degrees (I saw the display change from 38 to 37), I got the ice warning in the DIC.

2. Later in the day, I started the car in my garage. It was right at 37 degrees in my garage, so the ice warning came on right after I started the car. I then drove to a Camaro meet at a local restaurant.

3. I spent a few hours at the Camaro meet. When I was ready to head for home, I started the car again. The outside temp showed 29 degrees outside. The ice warning came on again, immediately.

So the DIC will warn you under all of these conditions, if it is working correctly. This is how it works on my car. Hope this helps...
