My wife and I have separate phones. Only mine is paired to the car. Calls that come in to my phone stay on speaker...I just answer like this: "Hi, this is Pete--you're on speaker phone in my car."

If someone is trying to reach my wife, they call her number and she just talks to them privately without any connection to the car (since her phone is not paired). Even if her phone was paired, this would still work out 99% of the time, because the car defaults to the first phone it detects once the car is started, which is nearly always mine. Bluetooth connects to only one phone at a time.

Hope this helps...

^^^ What he said. If I misunderstood and you're talking about your wife as a passenger, even if both phones are paired (assuming you both have one), the first phone in the pairing list will ALWAYS be the first to pair if both phones are present. Otherwise, as said, don't pair her phone to begin with if she's always a passenger.

You guys are either misunderstanding, or you are getting ridiculously defensive. I call it a flaw because I've never heard of any car - and certainly no law anywhere in the US - that forbids changing the radio's station while talking hands free on a cell phone.

The only point of disconnecting the phone from bluetooth was the fact that even that does not allow you to change the radio from the time the call comes in, to the time you disconnect the call.

If you guys don't consider it a flaw, I'd love to hear the reasoning behind locking out the radio while you are on the phone.

You and your wife get in the car. No phones/devices/whatever are connected via bluetooth to the car. Your wife receives a call. Can you change the radio station while she is on the phone?

Yes.

Only bluetooth connected phones lock up the radio.

Solution: Don't connect the phone to bluetooth.

Next question - When someone calls and it is for your wife and you're doing whatever it is you do so that she can talk without it coming through the speakers. What happens when she is done with the call? (Is the phone coming back connected, staying unconnected, etc.)

There's no point in Question #2 if you are saying you can't adjust the Camaro's radio controls and use the bluetooth feature at the same time.

That's the only issue. I was just trying to see if I was missing something stupid, or if everyone has the same problem. Apparently everyone's system is setup this way. I'll just have to live with it until they develop some fix or update.

To give a more serious answer, no there is no way to do it. The car's interface was designed for and assumes that the paired phone user in the vehicle will be the driver and therefore won't need to change the radio station because he/she is talking on the phone. I guess you could call it a design flaw. Will they fix the "flaw", I would say it probably could be fixed pretty easily via programming but as to whether or not they will do it I don't believe that enough people will report this as a problem to warrant the resources for the reprogram. Fact of the matter is its very likely that for probably 98+% of Camaro owners this is a non-issue.

Crap....

This is the first of many bluetooth capable cars I've owned that did this.

But it's certainly not a "deal breaker" type of annoyance, just something I'll get used to when we're in the Camaro.

There is a point to the question actually. If you don't want to answer then that's fine.

Why can't you adjust the radio while talking on the bluetooth connected device (to the car)? Because the car expects you to use the bluetooth device you connected, otherwise why else would you connect it? Going back to the OP, you said your wife uses the PHONE's menu so I'd imagine the problem is the communication between the PHONE's menu and the car thinking it is still connected.

Answering isn't the problem, it's getting off on a tangent that doesn't answer the real question.

If you're familiar with bluetooth, once you pair your phone, you don't have to make a conscious decision to either connect, or not connect each time you drive the car based on that trip's circumstances. {BTW - my wife and I share the same cell phone, which compounds the problem}

Let me ask you a question.
Why does the car lock you out of the radio controls if you transfer the call to the handset. Doesn't the car now realize that you are no longer using the car's audio system for the phone?

Clearly the answer is that the engineers just didn't think of that scenario so they didn't account for it in the programming. No biggie, just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something stupid - like the telescoping wheel I just found out about recently.

Hmmmm, I guess it remains connected (even though the audio is going through the phone) in case you need to switch back over? And it would keep the radio off because it knows you are still on the phone. Like you said, not a big deal. Just an interesting programming choice.

The wheel telescopes? No it doesn't... It does tilt but it doesn't come out or go back....

Yea it does, I've moved it in and out many times trying to figure out the best position. When you unlock it try pulling on it. Maybe it's only on higher trim levels?

to the OP. If I get a call and I want to transfer it to the phone (an iPhone in my case) I do that on the phone itself, and when I do the radio comes back on like normal. I am able to change stations or whatever. Sounds like it's an issue with the type of phone that you're using.
