I say you go and check the date on the box of the popcorn, these things have a exp date for a reason.

We have 3 microwaves (one we broke the plate in, one is a cheap a** model that didn't come with one, and the other is one of those cabinet versions and we have to take the plate out for a full bag of popcorn to fit inside) all three cook popcorn just fine without the plate.

Bonnie says, we need to get another plate for the microwave. Ok, no problem there, I agree. Buuuuuuttttt............ Then she says, that's why the popcorn is burning. I point out that our microwave at work didn't even come with a plate. And I've made bagged popocorn in microwaves without rotating plates before with no problem.

I say it's old popcorn. She says it's no rotation in the microwave.

I think my theory is more plausible.

So what is it?

Any help would be appreciated.

Why did you agree to get another plate if you thought the popcorn had nothing to do with it?

Anyways the other bag burning basically confirms it was the plate. My guess (and I'm not a Microwavism expert) is that different microwaves are set up differently, some need the rotating plates, some don't.

I am completely LMAO! She is right; she is always right! Just agree, go get another plate...then if it burns YOU WERE RIGHT! Got'ta use some of that reverse psychology. You are wrong though just so you know.

It was...my senior year in High School. I was the then-editor of the yearbook for that year, and it was just after school had let out. We had just sent in our section and barely met the deadline the night before (at ~5...and school let out at 2 - anyways)...

We decided to put in a bag of popcorn, and I got up to go do it. Threw it in the microwave, set it for 3 minutes...and walked back to the computer. I was messing around in Photoshop (suprised?), and didn't pay attention to the high-power microwave frying the popcorn. Smoke started coming out of the machine, and it smelled terrible!.

And....the fire alarm went off. Yep...whole school, 2000+ people, emptied out -- after school.

I felt like such a prune. I was all red-faced and embarrased. Our advisor was laughing his ass off, and my fellow students in the club thought it was funny, too.

I later found out that it was a not-so-routine fire drill...but I had a week to feel like a doofus.
So that's what you told them when they asked who pulled the fire alarm?

so, it turns out you're both wrong. Its not old popcorn, and its not the rotation of the plate. Its the spacing of the popcorn (or any other food) above the bottom of the microwave.

Still, an entertaining thread
