I'd love to see one thread dedicated to links, pictures, and prices of all available axles on the market.

THAT would be amazing...and INCREDIBLY helpful to all members.

Hmmm if I knew someone with Mod powers it could be started with the Hendrix Pics and the GForce Links from this thread..

I do think this is one of the weak links that we're going to see more of...

Are these axles stronger than the Driveshaft Shop Level 5 ? 4340 or 300M ? I am a little out of the norm and concerned they may not be enough. Thanks.

GM has built a beautiful car with a very strong engine, but I can not call it a real muscle car because of the weak drive train components they are currently using. These things are breaking without any MODS. My first muscle car was a 1967 396 chevelle 375hp. Back in the late 60's we had real muscle cars. They came from the factory with strong enough drive train to hold up without snapping trans shafts and axels. We would street race our cars most Friday and Saturday nights without having to worry about breaking something except maybe burning a clutch, which is minor, compared to whats happening now. I know GM is aware of the problems that some of us are having but is not willing to address this issue until something breaks. I do not think any owners of the new Camaro should have to worry about something breaking every time we want to leave a red light with a mustang beside us reeving his engine. By the way back in the 60's the motors were far underrated for insurance purposes. These motors were well over 400hp.

bayslinger... agree 100%, my 69 ss impala had at least 425 horsepower out of factory and never broke anything except rear bolts once going from ice to dry asphalt (my bad). I have not broken anything yet on my 2010, but mine is still mostly stock and I hear many have broken parts still stock. Almost doesn't seem right to have to put several thousand more into a stock to keep it from breaking.

Unfortunatly, this is the way it is. If you want a real stout drivetrain buy a Mustang GT but the engine will be limited to 450rwhp with out a built shortblock. The Gm cars for years have had outstanding motors but weak drivetrains. Ford just the opposite. My 4th gen had an even weaker rear end and auto trans. Broke trans at 340rwhp with 60k miles on it. Broke rear end at 400rwhp with 80k miles on it(i was on drag radials when rear let go) When I bought this car I figured it would be the same story but hoped my feeling would be wrong. Well at least its no worse than expected.lol

I roasted the clutches in the LSD in my G8 and it spit out an axle and then tore off the end of it.

Our diffs are a little smaller than the Camaro. The axles are similar.

I have Gforce axles ordered.

Yep, the inner stubs are the same but the Camaro diff is larger. It wont even fit into the G8 housing.
I'll see if the Camaro housing will bolt into the G8 cradle in the morning.

You get that Harrop Truetrac installed I sent you?

Thanks
Chris

The 3.70 diff and TT are at Performance Transmissions in IL getting assembled.

Hope to get it back late next week.

Now you need to get me some axles. I'm not even going to bother putting the car back together until I have better axles.

PS
According to Livernois, the Camaro diff has a wider rear bushing and mount. You would need to trim the bushing boss approx 1/4" to have it fit the G8 sub-frame.

I was wondering about this so I checked for my self.

The Camaro center section is a direct bolt in for the G8.
It bolts up perfect, same width and also uses the same inner stubs.
So all you would have to do is find a Camaro center section and bolt it in.

The diff in the pic is out of a 2010 Camaro SS, the cradle is from a G8.

That's what I get for listening to third hand info.

If I tear up the new TrueTrac, the next thing I buy will be a Camaro center section.
