Hmmm... maybe not the whole story but after 16,000 miles of watching a lot of PIDs, i can tell you the knock sensors are a LOT more active with 87....

Ok so bottom line I guess the question is, is running a higher octane going to boost performance at all? I understand the whole knock sensor thing but is that something you can even notice other than hooking that nifty little gadget up and watching the numbers?

Not sure... but when you are ET hunting and the time slips measure down to .001, then every little extra bit helps...

That being said... car seems a bit more peppy with the higher octane... but that could simply be the placebo effect..

Part of the reason I bought the v6... I look all the way to the left and choose that one.. unless the one on the far left is Diesel that is...

NO, the Rev limiter is not set to 118MPH... and YES, driving in this manner does affect MPG...

....and in closing, we conclude that 91 or greater cuts down on knocking and provides "peppier" acceleration performance but no greater fueld economy. However, for daily running 87 will get you from A->B.
