I have always changed my own oil.
It actually saves me time, since I can do this on my own schedule, as apposed to spending my time at the Dealership.

I am wondering what an oil change will be like in the Camaro.
Used to Fords and imports.

I also graph the mpg as it's a good indicator if something is wrong. I've done this with all my vehicles since the early 90's... must be the engineer in me.

Good advise here. might have to adpat that to what I do. Kept a log in the owners manual, not on excel.

Guess what 2 quarts low I call the dealership to complain they say we put 6 quarts in, just what it calls for in your book this is an LS3 not a 6 cylinder. My question I guess would be did this engine get hurt by driving it home? Only went about 5 miles. Someone from the dealership is coming by with 2 more quarts to put in it but has some damage already been done? From now on I will do it myself so I know it gets done right. No more being lazy for me.

I wonder what oil they put in the V6 they thougth you had don't use Mobil 1.
Even if they bring you 2 Qts. of Mobil 1 that does NOT mean they put that in, (the 6qts.) You should get 8 qts.plus a filter FROM THEM so you can be sure it has Mobil 1 & do it yourself.
You should be fine, I think you learned your LESSON......... Unlike a lot of others that have had mistakes made to their car by the Dealer.

Actually there have been a lot worst mistakes made by the dealers!
I have read many just on the Camaro5 site alone.

I made a courtesy call to the manager of the store just for their own good.
She said come back and we will give you a free meal.
I said "why would I want to come back"

Thanks Jarhead, I was actually thinking of writing an iPhone app that would do all this logging, calculating, graphing, and keeping track of maintenance.

Exactly, from jacking the car up to dumping the oil I'm done in 20 minutes MAX, dealership is easily an hour if not leave it for half a day.

Always have, always will! Even taught my GF to change her own oil! We also did her differential fluid! Did my oil, differential and tranny already on The Beast! 2nd oil change coming up soon. It's so easy - as many of you are indicating.

Getting it up high enough to get underneath it is the most difficult thing, and that isn't hard. Filter and drain plug are real easy to get to.
Caution.....just don't over tighten the plug puttin it back in.

Sorry about that Chief! I had the cost of the car in the first line and did want it included in the total.

I sent 2ndgenz28 a revised spreadsheet to post. Perhaps someone can tell me how to post an attachment.
