K&N (or any) CAI install question ...

I am getting my K&N Aircharger CAI from OCD Customs today and plan on installing over the weekend ...

Question ... is it necessary to pull the negative battery cable? I don't mind resetting the clock/radio/functions, but I'm worried about the window indexing ...

Thanks for your input ....

I installed my CAI, Inc. intake and didn't pull any battery cables. If you're concerned that disconnecting the MAF and reconnecting after install is going to cause problems, it didn't on mine.

I did this same install, same CAI. I would strongly suggest that you do remove the cable for safty as well as computer issues. The window index can be a pain in the a$$. It took me several tries to re-index.

Good luck.

What safety or PCM issues were you concerned about?

The only thing that is electical is the MAF plug. Unplugging it is no issue at all. Do the K&N instructions tell you to unhook the battery?

I did mine, I don't really know why. Guessing, its probably a safety disclaimer, K&N might be liable if some douche hit the starter while another was changing the CAI.

I installed the Halltech intake today and didn't unplug the battery. Only took about 15-20 minutes to complete the install.

i don't think you need to disconnect the battery as the computer learns the new airflow by itself.

When I installed my Airraid CAI I disconnected the negative battery and pulled the #5 and #15 fuses. I don't know if this makes any difference in recalibrating the computer on the LS3, but I did it anyhow.

However (helpful bit of advice), when you disconnect the battery cable DON'T shut your trunk. There is no way of opening it (with battery disconnect) other than climbing through the backseat and pulling the emergency lever inside the trunk well.

Also, when you disconnect don't try shutting your doors, you could crack the windows. They stay up until the battery is reconnected and indexed by the computer.

That comes to $75-$100/hr since it only takes around 15-20min to do it, lol.

I unplugged mine, and, to my surprise, the car kept all the radio settings. Only thing that I had to fix was the date/time and the window indexing which took about 90 seconds. The only reason I did it was becuase the instructions said to. I didn't know the computer would automatically relearn the new intake though, that is pretty cool.

problems after K&N installation?

Anyone have issues with car starting after installing K&N intake for v6? Car starts up for 2 seconds and shuts right off. Emissions sensor maybe or some anti-theft crp?

Did you plug the MAF back in? Go over everything and make sure it's all plugged in properly. Unplug and plug it back in too. Sometimes things don't make a tight connection. If worse comes to worse, take it out and put the stock setup back in to eliminate that as the issue. I don't see how this could happen unless you didn't plug the maf back in but it's a place to start.
