You have a point. LS1tech is stuffed to the gills with elitist pricks.

I'm just annoyed there were more people jumping on this guys ass than enjoying his enthusiasm.

do any of you read more then just the 1st post in a thread? what he is talking about is perfectly acceptable, he is not ruining his car. If you read your owners manual you will see they talk about doing EXACTLY what he did. By mashing the gas quickly and letting off quickly it puts the car into a "Passing"mode so that the cars ready to jump when your passing opportunity opens up.

Yep... the car is literally programmed for it! (I literally hate people that use the word literally!)

P.S. Don't take advice from anyone with a LS3... this is too complex for their tiny... !

The way I understood it, the car was being teased into downshifting, only to have the gas quickly released as it was doing so, producing said growl. This is unhealthy for your transmission. This, followed by accounts of getting sideways in the rain, etc all appear at first glance to be reckless and detrimental to the car. And you know how passionate C5ers are about their cars. I think everyone on this thread needs to settle down a little and stop jumping down each other's throats.

It is little more than having it in M mode, and downshifting. I doubt he is doing any more damage to his trany than someone who drives aggressively.

And yes, we do love to pummel the idiots who brag about their street belligerence. Although, I wouldn't qualify this as bragging... more into the category of 'hey look what I found'. Either way, it wasn't most brilliant way to address the subject. Nor did the OP make it easy to understand... sorry no insult intended, but english was definately not your major.

That being said... and now we know what we are talking about, this is a great subject to discuss. I agree with Taz, and believe that this is an intended downshift for passing. And I think all automatics do it, it is just more pronounced when you have a V8 under the hood. Whether or not it is good on the trany... see my above remark. This is a performance car, even an automatic should be able to perform?

P.S. I think the OP should try [M] and the paddle shifters... "OMG... LOOK WHAT I FOUND!"

Never said anything about M mode. More like stabbing the gas until the car realizes it's time to go. Then it downshifts so that it can take off like a bat outta hell, only to have the driver cut the gas off mid-downshift. Can't be a healthy practice.

All I'm saying is that some of the posters on here had cause for alarm, but no reason to get sh_tty on Mr Clutch here. He obviously loves his car, and if he was having a little too much fun, he'll think twice now after the brutal (and somewhat unjust) flaming he got. My point is, everyone is takin this thread a little too seriously. Nice of some of you to come to his rescue, but to start calling everyone else assh_les is hardly productive. (Not you specifically, but you've read back a page or two I'd hope)

Padleshifters = good Def give those a try Clutch

I agree, if you are going to floor it... Floor it! But I'd hope this Camaro can stand up to a few jarring accelerations/decelerations! Healthy, maybe not... but neither is a big fat Juicy Cheeseburger! (I'm a bit hungry, atm)

You always have good advice Revo1, and I agree the OP should probably heed your words. But just like learning about our Camaros... sometimes first hand experience (gettin' flamed) is the best way to learn. Some of it is just unfair and uncalled for (making fun of his C5 handle)... but you'll always have that.

OK.. too nice of a day to sit inside, time to go get some Food and weekly Camaro bath!

I didn't do anything detrermental. I just revved the engine. But that's what I was going to ask,...can revving the engine like that damage anything? Like you said...the "torque converter"? How am I damaging it?
He's just letting the auto downshift...but lets off before it actually goes....which makes the auto upshift again.

You're not harming anything necessarily....but you will wear out that clutch-pack in the tranny over time...
