Who said I was speaking for myself?

I'm just stating what may not be obvious to all. There are guys out there who could misinterpret a gesture like that.

Similarly, If someone were to call me a profanity I wouldn't really care or react, but I know that in general that a large number of people would take offense and retaliate with a physical assault upon their body. If someone were to ask if it's okay to use profanities on strangers I would advise against that as well. It's no reflection on me or my attitudes.

I'm usually checking out the cars around me at traffic lights and on the road, but rarely do I catch a guy looking at my car. When they do, they don't make eye contact so a thumbs-up, wave, or nod is pointless.

Mustang's, Charger's/Challenger's, even Vette's... nothing. The only "cool car" recognition I get is from other Gen 5 drivers. (This part of PA is a strange twilight zone to live in folks.)

I guess on the upside, I don't need to worry about freaky Bob thinking I'm flirting with him and following me home. Then again, with my dating record, freaky Bob would be an improvement.

Another guys take, Thumbs up is okay, I've done this and recieved the same in return from women in hot cars, more than that could be asking for trouble. And as much fun as they can be, pesonalized plates in my opinion are just a bad idea. Too easy for someone to remember if they get pissed off at you. May not even be your fault but if they are really pissed it makes no difference what the reason is. I tried to respond as I would talk to my daughter if I had one. I want you to be safe first and foremost.

I usually nod or a small wave and smile. I tend to keep it brief and simple especially towards a woman I'm kind of shy.

I've actually dated a few ladies, that I met at a red light. On the other hand, I was riding shotgun with my blond sister, and I was amazed at how many guys were running off the road to get a better look at her....creepy...

Note to self..."Do not wave to strangers any more".

I wonder if this could be a regional thing? Small town living...being friendly, it's just our way. However, now that I see 'lots of guys' take this as flirting, I guess I better not do it anymore!!

My 20 yr old son is out in Southern California. He commented to me recently that he is surprised how he can't just 'talk' to people out there. He said that if he starts a conversation people think he's a freak. Here in West Michigan seems like we all talk to each other! No big deal...just being friendly.

Hmmmmm...

ladies all I can say is be VERY careful.
I would recommend that if you don't want unwanted attention then don't draw attention to yourself.
You're going to get the the bad with the good if you wave and smile to guys frequently.
Is it right...NO! fact of life...YES!
BTW if you spot a TorRed Challenger owner in S. Illinois giving a thumbs it's just cause your car is cool...not quite as cool as mine...but still cool

Male or female I wouldnt stop waving, thumps-up, or even saying "nice car." Im going to say that 99% of the people you will cross don't think it is anymore than just a passing friendly moment or commonality because of the car you drive. I do also think it's situational. There's a difference between driving around at 8 am or 5 pm as opposed to Friday night cruising through a parking lot or some local hang out. At that point I might consider some reservation.
