If the vehicle has the 6.2L V8 engine

(VIN Code J), use premium unleaded
gasoline with a posted octane
rating of 91 or higher. For best
performance, use premium unleaded
gasoline with a posted octane
rating of 93. You can also use
regular unleaded gasoline rated at
87 octane or higher, but the vehicle’s
acceleration could be slightly
reduced, and you might notice a
slight audible knocking noise.
So i would assume you would get better performance out of 91 then you would with 87...

And that's fine if you and more see it that way.

But i see it as that's what GM wants you to run so they can play a game on you.

Its like The UBC in my bizz they say don't do that or this, But if i get a home engineered the way i want it. and submit the plans with the the engineers papers then its ok to do it the way i want.

It all about liability on the car, Reminds me of my 1987 928s4 that one day i come home to go out on a date and the car had been siting for 2 hr, I go to start the car and have a small pop under the hood and 3 dents in the hood from the bottom,

I take it to the dealer and they try tilling me its the gas i use, This car only use's chevron with Techron, So i called my lawyer and needles to say car was fixed on there dime.

all run up to 91 only

91 is the highest you can find in North Dakota until you get a few blocks away from the Minnesota border, then you might find a pump or two posting 92.

91 is what the cars are tuned for and what it runs best on, putting anything less will pull timing. Also running anything higher than 91 doesn't buy you anything either unless you have a custom tune. You can put 93 or 107 in it but it is not going to run any faster/better unless you have it tuned to run with that octane.

bottom use 91 in cally you cant get 93, but i use 93
i was speaking in general. There might be someone with a LT/LS with the same question.

Also, i'm not too observant.

2SSRS, please read through this thread: http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88544

There are many of us who have had slower than normal acceleration due to the engine computer being in the "low octane table" and for some, it gets stuck there even if 91+ octane is used. One particular forum member that had issues with low power is PQ. Here's the difference between the low octane and high octane tables as tested by him:

"I probably did 250 runs and averaged 6.2 with a BEST of 5.9 and my first run after I pulled my fuses was 5.1 ish, can't remember, but from there on out, it was an average of .8 secs quicker. Nothing else changed. (I was roasting my tires more. )"

So, there's definitely a loss of power when using gas with less than 91 octane. If you're ok with that, then keep with 87, it's your money after all

91 is what the SS is tuned for. The LT and LS's are tuned for 87.

Guys quit the pissing match. He can use any grade fuel he wants on his car it's not yours. leave it alone.

There is nothing wrong with using a lower grade fuel.

he said he had a 2SS, so that's what I was referring to, they are tuned for 91 so 91 will be optimal for him. 93 will not help or hurt. 87 will pull timing but it will still run fine just won't have as good performance.
