All of it needs to be looked at including suspension. Many stock components were not designed to handle some of these huge gains in hp so things like axles can break (which has happened to members on this forum), suspension items like trailing arms can bend (which has happened) etc. Brakes should be upgraded, axles upgraded, safety hoops around the driveshaft, just to mention a few. Suspension bushings and various items in the rear of the car should be looked at to avoid damage from wheel hop or just spinning the tires because the suspension can't keep the power under control.

If you're under 500 hp it's not so dramatic but some guys are really starting to climb up the hp ladder. A car is a system; change one thing, other things related need to be upgraded too.

Sorry for the short thread jack.
its not a thread jack its a thread about all things mustangs!...kinda

how would you say saleen's coil-over system ranks quality wise? i just went with a Koni/Steeda set up...just have to wait for that back order to end on the dampers. what brakes do you use? i just went with the 6-piston baer set up.

just checking for the opinion of a professional

We have the six piston 15" Saleen brakes up front with OEM caliper in the rear. I had brake pads custom made by a company that does racing brake pads -- Cobalt Friction.

My first test car was from the Detroit area. He races SCCA Solo, but I forget the class. He was running nice quality camber camber / castor plates, Tokico D Spec and Steeda coils. Our first try at the damping and coil rates was in my opinion a complete failure. I was so unhappy we didn't even align his car. I told him we would have another setup in less than a month. He drove back to Detroit and told me he loved them. That was because he didn't know any better.

He really only uses his Mustang for track days so it was not big deal to him not to have his car spot on. He snuck out before we couls swap the new parts in and got his first podium finish. That was on the bad Pedders / Saleen coilovers. By the time we were through he wouldn't run anything else. He has won numerous events and we take credit for providing him better tools to work with.

Yeah, the race should have been closer... Not that many vids of races between the 5.0's vs SS's as I would have expected. I guess it's still early though for the 2011's.. I'd like to see some races stock vs stock. I know there will be plenty of ones modded later on..

nobody said the suspension shouldnt be looked at or upgraded. But it was brought up that the DRIVETRAIN was in need safety upgrades and i was wondering what those were. I see a driveshaft loop is mentioned but upgraded axels are a durability upgrade and not really a safety issue. What other safety issues with the drivetrain do camaros have at the 500hp level?

That was the exact point I was trying to make in my posts....these dumbass videos don't prove a damn thing.

Line em up @ the track and stop the cyber/youtube/forum bench racing already!

but the same arguement will be made...no matter who wins, even at the track it the loss will be blamed on "driver", "traction", "tires", "weather", "weight", etc, etc

that is exactly how the race should go down between thses two cars. Not sure why anybody would think that camaro driver is bad. If he was, then the Mustang driver was equally bad. It should be a close race with the advantage going to the 5.0 and thats exactly how this video played out.
