This is a "Just wanted to prove I could do it" build. Even with a donor car it's gonna be more expensive than a LS1/ LS3 swap. There will be lots of fab work, engine tranny mount locations probably need moved, the ecm, bcm will need some deep thought to integrate into the 3rd gen electrical and mechanical systems (gauges are fed from ecm? ABS, etc.)

LS1 is cheap nowadays, parts are plentiful for a V8 swap since it came with an LS1. Bolt in, and GOBS more horsepower... even an LS7 would be an easy swap, but more expensive.

Who said anything about keeping her stock??

A few simple things can really make an already great car even more fun!

EDIT: Oh wait...thought you was talking about a 2010 V6...but see you have a 2010 SS and guessing your DD is the 92 RS lol. My bad.

I have 4th gen on the brain this morning... Still, a LS1/LS3/LS7 etc. should be any ez swap into 3rd gen. Look for a stand alone ecm. Would still be a fairly unique build

This would be an awesome project. outrageous in the changes to the third gen in order for it to work. Electrical system is waaayyyy off. Tuned port injection compare to direct injection. High pressure pump is in the engine but plumbing id different. Would have to completely gut the third gen harness and install a fifth gen set up. Thgen comes the difference in the third gen and fifth gen internal wiring functioning with the under hood. Lots of time and Lots of money invovled here. But i think it is doable for someone with the resources.

ya a ls series engine would still be sweet but its just something about the 3.6 that really draws my attention, probaly how its newer and not dime a dozen.

could you change the computer? in the 3.6 so it would work a little more of thirdgen level computer? sorry if it makes no sense. what i mean is have the reprogrammed brains of the thirdgen on the 3.6 so you didnt have to deal with newer style everything.

I PROBALY wouldnt use my iroc for the swap, unless i was 100% sure i could do it, i dont wanna hack her up and i would probaly get a low optioned sport coupe and strip her down to around 3k (OR less weight) with the engine which i think would be pretty dang easy.

I would like to know if anyone has installed 3.42 gears on our V6's and if they did what was the time improvements?

Well from the look of it, stock gearing for the SS is 3.45. so you could try that to, or 3.73 MIGHT be better since these cars are pretty heavy and it'll get you out of the whole quicker, but your loose some top end and it will affect your mpg a bit.

Trying to adapt the independent rear suspension into an IROC or third-gen would be a bear.
Fuel system would also be another feat not easily accomplished.
I wouldn't consider attempting to make the early computer work with this motor, just get the ECM and wiring from the donor car.
Going with a standard transmission would be easier as the automatics have more sensors and need the computer to work.
Driveshafts can be made to work with whatever trans-diff combo you're working with. They can be made in custom lengths and with whatever needed on each end.

LS1's have been put in the third-gens for years, and with the T56. All of the parts needed have been worked out and are on the market these days.

Good luck either way you go.

thanks, so 5th gens are IRS? like the c5 vettes correct? i know there has been a few people that have fit in the IRS from the c5's, i though 5th gens used rear ends though, bummer.

I didnt know the 3.6 would be that complicated to swap in, i though it world be a little more complex everday engine swap. Maybe someday i will do it though!

Also, if no one already saw from tgo, im actually 13. i didnt wanna say anything from the begging as i though people probaly would take any of this seriously.
