I have no problem using either one. But, I believe the Royal Purple Gear Oil already has the posi additive in the oil. So you don't have to get that separately.

That, and I have a thing about changing motor oil brands. I figure if I know for a fact the car came with a certain brand of oil (This being Mobil 1), I might as well stick with that.

$83 from a dealer's parts dept. for all three bottles. If you look around online, you can probably get it for half that. All are required to refill the diff on a V8.

Guy said the small bottle of additive gets poured in first to a fully drained diff, then the other two (until it spills out the upper fill hole). Car MUST be level when doing this (use all 4 jack stands).

NOT true. You only use 2.5oz of the additive and 1 bottle (1 quart) of fluid. It all depends on how reasonable your GM parts counters are on costs. The ones in Wichita are ridiculous and I paid just under $50 for one bottle each of fuid and additive.

I forget what the torque is for the drain & fill plugs, do a search though and it should come up.

Yup, you're right...manual says 1qt of the fluid. So why the f#@& did he sell me double the quantity?? I'm taking back a qt tomorrow for a refund of $33.

As for the quantity of the additive, where do you get 2.5oz? Is that in the service manual? It says nothing about qty in the owner's manual.

The 2.5 oz thing is in the owner's manual. It's on the page for Capacities and Specifications. It shows 1 qt then an asterisks that points to:

*Add 2.5 oz. (75 mL) of friction modifier to the specified quantity of axle lubricant.

I prefer the Royal Purple route. 1 qt from the parts store and it already includes the limited slip additive, and excludes the dealer mark up sodomy.

Ok so is this the Mobile 1 LS that will work w/o a additive for the rear diff? M1 is the easiest to find for me and I will not be raped by the dealer on inferior products

Mobile 1 LS + friction modifier works great. I tried it without the additive but it makes horrible noises so I drained and put in the additive and now it is fine.

AMSOIL Severe Gear and the additive worked wonders for me. GM gear oil already has the additive installed in their gear oil according to my GM dealer but nobody and I mean nobody beats AMSOIL for protection imo.

per the 2010 Camaro SS manual... you still need to add 2.5 oz of the additive to the "LS" fluid.

I use Mobil1 because I'm used to using that brand. Not because I think they are better than any other oil...though they may or may not be. I also bought 2 qts thinking that I would need more. But 1qt was all that was needed. It costs me like 25 bucks to change it. 15 for the oil and 10 for the additive.
