No bias just my opinion. Paul Tracey seems to get better performance out of the cars he drives in during all the shows I've seen. Last time I checked sliding around a curve (although it looks impressive and requires a fair amoumt of skill) is not the fastest way around a track. Tanner Foust is an excellent driver and very entertaining to watch. I'm just saying I feel Paul Tracey is better. The country I live in plays no factor in what I'm saying.
It would be cool if they could swap cars and run each car with both drivers having a turn behind the wheel.

Seems that the numbers in the standing mile for both cars was inflated for the TV program. Actual runs posted on Youtube show different results.
172.9 mph for the Camaro and 185.5 mph for the GT500. Still very impressive numbers!!

Mustang GT GT 500 and a Supercharged Camaro?

I'm not trying to start a mustang/camaro war, but looking for real information. Minus the driver skill, what horsepower in your opinion would it take for the Camaro to overcome the weight difference and defeat the GT or the GT 500 in the 1/4mile? I'm talking about a stock GT and GT500. A supercharged Camaro with about 520rwhp and no other mods. Is that enough?

The GT....about 20 more HP than the SS has now and they would be dead even. Buy a CAI...(if we are talking LS3 SS...the L99 is down 30hp)

The GT500 weighs 3820....the SS weighs 3860. The GT500 has 550hp. IF gearing and weight stays similar the 556hp caddy engine should be enough to match up nicely.

(I know their are a lot of other variables) but a quick rule of thumb that works rather well a lot of the time is....

1 tenth in the quarter can be gained by losing 100 pounds from your car.
Roughly 1 tenth can be gained by adding 10hp to your car.

A supercharger adds weight so chevy has some work to do with the z28 to "overcome" and not simply be on par with the GT500. It is going to be a challenge to do this and stay within equal pricing.

As for GT vs SS. Chevy could very easily overcome the GT by going DI and offering some gearing options. Maybe lose some weight...etc etc. (which I am guessing the 2012 ss will be faster than the 2012 GT)
Then ford will answer back etc etc.

Once you get above 500hp it all comes down to traction and driver it can go either way. I'm not sure what the quickest 520whp SS is running but I can tell you the older heavier slower 2010 GT500 has ran 11.5X on sticky tires (11.9X stock) and the best 2011 GT is running 12.3's on stickies (12.5X stock) in the summer. I wouldn't get too hung up on what's faster because the only real place to hook up and race two 520whp car's is on a prep'd track preferably with sticky tires to rule out poor traction and driver error as much as possible.

P.S The 2011 GT500 PP weighs 3,751 lbs

OP, I have to agree with Bigdan,...when you get above the 500 horsepower point it all depends on traction. If you can't put all of that power to the ground, it's useless to have. You can have a car with over 500hp but if you cant get traction, you can easily get embarrassed by a 480hp GTR which weighs nearly the same as an SS.

Keep good some good tires on your car and learn to become a better driver. Learn the in's and outs of your car. Learn the "sweetspot" of your car.

As far as the 2011 GT goes, it wouldn't be very hard to over come considering how close in performance the cars are. 50 or more rear-wheel-horsepower should have you ahead of the GT. 30 would probably get you dead even, which can be achieved with a CIA and a tune, but 50rwhp should put you in front by a considerable amount.

Get a cam, full-exhaust with headers and a tune,....it's over. You may not want to get to the point of camming the car yet, but a header+exhaust system+tune is definitely a must. When adding those parts, bolt-on or not, I wouldn't leave the shop without a tune that way you leave with optimum power. American Racing headers puts 30rwhp on your car without a tune, 50rwhp with a tune, add a 20rwhp CAI and 13rwhp exhaust and your good to go.

The 2011 GT and the SS are so close performance wise a mod to either car would be enough to tip the race in one's favor, so don't think into it too much.

Sincerely...I'm not trying to be sarcastic...but if the driver's skill isn't worth noting...what does it matter? The car can't win without a skilled driver.

And 100lbs is roughly equal to 10 hp in the quarter mile...so....not much, and a lot, to answer your question(s).

Not according to ford. That was not with a full tank of gas. That was when they weighed the car on their scales. Fords listed curb weight is ~3820 (not 100% sure havent looked lately)

Curb weights are based off of a car with a full tank. The SS would weigh less than 3800 low on gas as well.

Do you believe everything in that link? I guess the car is only capable of a 12.4 in the 1/4 also
