Hey Tap Shift fans... question for you... when coming to a stop light or stop sign do you use the tap shift to downshift or allow your Camaro to downshift for you? I've do both and guess it is no biggie but just curious. Thanks

I usually let the car downshift for me in that situation.. On a side note you do know you can start out in second gear if you want to keep from spinning when it is slippery out..

Yep, when stopping in "tap" mode the A6 stops in 2nd. I didn't realize I could downshift to 1st until the other day when I hit the downshift tap button by accident at a stop.

Come clean and explain to all why you are so against this shifter by the way where did you get that cool picture of the model under the hood because it definitly isn't your girlfriend.

1.) I'm always in the "zone" on TAPshift, not his shifter. Yes, I've commented on it, but as I have stated it was JMHO.

2.) An even bigger . Don't say "it definitely isn't your girlfriend" because you don't know me and most importantly, that's Megan Fox. Once again, BIG on you not knowing who she was.

3.) How old are you? Your grammar and punctuation makes you seem like you're 12.

To those who leave their car in "S" all the time, Why?

So I can shift whenever I want without having to mess around with anything. It's just easier for me. I also understand that the car holds the RPM's longer in "S" versus "D" so you get a little more power out of each gear.

TAPshift is a must in the curvies/mountains rather than leaving it in D or S.

I haven't used the taps much yet, but I've played around with "S" mode a little. I was getting on the freeway yesterday in sport mode and was probably doing at least 70. When I let off the gas, the RPMs stayed around 4K or so. Is this mode really meant more for driving a road with lots of twists and turns? I could see how keeping the revs high then would help, but if I'm just going in a straight line, I let off the gas when I reach my target speed. At that point, having the RPMs so high doesn't do much.

I guess the advantage of using it on a straightaway would be that it lets the RPMs go higher before shifting, which could just be accomplished via tap shift.

I used the tap shift once, and that was when I test drove the V6 A6 Camaro just to see how it handled. It was very nifty and somewhat fun for me. I am glad so many of the A6 owners are enjoying it. I personally have only owned Manual transmission vehicles my whole life, so when I bought my Camaro, I of course got the V6 M6.

I completely understand why you guys are enjoying being able to downshift on curvy roads, and the additional control over situations that the Tap Shift is affording you. It is what us M6 drivers experience all of the time when we drive our Camaros. I am very glad that the A6 has the Tap Shift on it so everyone can experience this joy, even those who wish to do it just some of the time.

The Camaro is just awesome like that, a configuration for everyone! I won't ever play the M6 v. A6 debate (Unless it is in jest or ribbing for fun) because I understand everyone has a preference. For me personally, I learned to drive on a Manual, and have only owned Manuals, so it is all I know. Driving an Automatic feels like too much is lacking to me, and I can't stand it for very long without feeling bored and agitated.

The flip side of that same coin is the majority of drivers who learned on automatic and have always driven mostly or all automatics, Manual seems like a lot of additional work and hassle and gets to be annoying after a while. It makes perfect sense to me, and I think the Tap Shift is such a cool feature so those who want experience a bit of both at their convenience can do just that!

This is very true, that is why GM has kept engine/trans. output modest. When you unleash what these cars realy have there is bound to be breakage, definately something GM is trying to avoid. On the other hand where as I dragged raced (Harley Davidson's) professionally for years you except breakage as part of the process, when you break it you improve it, then you break the next component and improve it, if you are persistent enough when you're done breakin' stuff it will come down to tire spin and then driving skills are needed.

Me too, but I usually only go down a gear or two. Tap shift is there if I need it.
