Oh yeah!!! I completely submerged the filter!! Which is what you would have to do with the Injen, and that means 22", yep damn near 2 foot, of water!!

We all know, none of us would drive, on purpose, in our Camaros, through that kind of water. As to the what ifs, and you never knows, the same can be said for any CAI. You submerge the filter, then you run the risk, with anyone of them.

And I agree with SDCamaro10, why buy an intake just to have to modify it? I also agree AirRaid probably isn't going back to the drawing board again, lol. Gotta give them credit, at least they fixed the first non-issue!
Like I mentioned though, the other part of my desicion making was I wanted the piece of mind that I could quickly switch back to stock if needed and if I didn't and went for service that I wouldn't have to worry about a service tech "saying" that I had a problem caused by water, whether it was actually true or not.

As far as water getting in the Airaid, no worrys there because I used my power washer on the front of the car to test and make sure no water could get in.

The "mod" took all of 5 minutes and isn' necessary but if you can improve the results, isn't that what we are all after?

I've hit my Injen with a power washer, no issues! Drove through severe rain, no issues. We can go back and forth on it all day, the end result is this, only an act of God, or of sheer idioticy would cause a problem, and it can happen with either brand. Period. Please get over it.

As to ease of install, switching back and forth. I have no arguement. The AirRaid is indeed simpler to install, although I still wouldn't buy one just to have to modify it to perform at it's best. Seems silly to me. Especially when there are others out there that, either, outperform it, or perform as well, no mods needed. For the same, if not close, price.

Seems stupid to buy a car just to have to modify it to have it perform at its best.

Back to the topic at hand please. I reset my computer last night after making sure the vacuum hose was tight. I probably did 75-80% city style driving and 20-25% highway and I am getting around 17. I am even babying the takeoffs just to try and get better MPGs. I know the engine is not broken in yet, but seems awful low to me.

Take her out on the highway, cruising at around 65 or 70. Reset the AVG MPG, and watch it bounce around on the average MPGs for awhile. After several miles it should start to settle down as it gathers more data and mileage to average, but even with your car not yet broken in, I'd expect it to be bouncing somewhere around mid 20s or higher on the highway at those speeds.

If it does that, then I'd say its just fine. I get on it in my car plenty, and im averaging 22 MPG, but I have gotten it to just over 28 before on a cruise.

LOL, there is nothing to go back and forth about or to get over. Injen has a fine product and I am not saying there is anything wrong with it.

It's just my personal preference (and some others) to go with the Airaid.

Were both happy so its all good.

I got 31mpg from Port Huron MI to Lansing MI on my Roto-Fab intake. The trick is taking int very easy. Once you start pumping that pedal, mpg falls drastically.

On a similar drive to the track and back I got 25.Somthing.

I have a foot made of solid lead jacketed in depleted uranium and I have a horrendous number of stops on my way to work, tempered by an 8 minute hop on the freeway.

Prior to installing my Injen, my long-term (1000 mile) average MPG was 19.0.

With the Injen installed, giddy hard takeoffs and occasionally retarded passing, my long-term average MPG has remained 19.0.

I did a test and drove in a grandmotherly fashion for a few miles on a backroad and achieved 34.2 MPG (Injen installed) at 50 mph; but, in that case, I had zero stops and was just able to cruise.

I did that. I was only able to stay on the freeway for around 2-3 miles or so but with JUST the cruising speed at 65 I was aroudn 31-32 MPG. So I guess I am ok. City driving is getting me around 15-16 which really sucks IMO.

On a side note I tested the MPG on a full tank of gas against the computers MPG reading and it was DEAD on.

Tell that to the people who make the cars. As you want to go back to the topic at hand, I'll stay from further discussion.

That's all good! My thing is, people need to quit bringing up the hydrolock non-issue. The risk is just as great with an AirRaid, as it is with an Injen. There is no safety valve built into either or for that issue, and both would have to be completely submerged to even have the issue.

Although AEM does offer something for those who do think they might be driving into ponds,a bypass valve. Of course, if you're not into driving into ponds, you'll be okay. As to my AirRaid on my truck, that bypass valve wouldn't have helped either, lol. Water was at my windshield!

Mine mpg is the same reading as yours on the freeway, around town and I mean 25-35 with 19 stops and stop and go freeway to work I get about 17-18 with automatic and not trying for good mpg.

Maybe my city MPG will get better as the engine loosens up. Just tripped 500 miles and the engine already feels different than 100 miles ago.

Yea, I have 6300 on mine but mpg has always been 17.8-19.8 since day one.Mostly city with a freeway run on the weekend.Did 26 on freeway to San Diego but that had traffic amd city as well so would have been better. That being said I have never tried to get good mpg!
The car will definately get better with time. Mine felt stronger at 1500 and more at 2500. I think aluminum engines need about 4-6000 miles at least to breakin for best performance, I know My 98 LS1 did. One guy kept getting faster up to about 25000 miles !
