The Camaro shopper who settled on a V6 cried coulda woulda shoulda and became a V8 hata!

Let's use the computer analogy. Would you say today's lowend computer chips are faster than the "performance" chips of yesterday?

Of course.

BUT to call the lowend computer chip a "performance" chip in today's world is just silly. That's the point MikeSS is trying to make (or atleast I think he is).

It's the same as trying to label a 312 hp car the prestigious badge of "musclecar"...

The v6 was primarily marketed to the same crowd who buy v6 mustangs, and take a portion of those profits...can you guess the type of people who buy those?

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with it! 312hp is nothing to laugh at! I mean, for $23k, I wouldn't have anything other than a camaro!

The v6 is meant for people who can't handle, OR don't need that much power. That is why certain people buy the v6 over the v8.

It's a paradox that the people who didn't "need" that much power... still want to label their car a true musclecar. That is what is funny about it.
A) Computer chips are needed to be more & more powerful for more complex programs, software & video games... so it just keeps up. How does that compare to cars? Is the speed limit increasing so we need faster cars? YOU are missing the point of 312 HP is plenty fast & powerful. There will always be something faster.

B) No Camaro is a true 'muscle car', but they are a true 'Pony car' both V6 or V8.

C) By your logic the SS V8 will not be a true 'muscle car' when the Z28 comes available.

So where does it end?

The computer chip analogy was terrible, I agree. But what about the camaro not being a true muscle car? I always thought pony/muscle were interchangable for a car with a powerful engine that had to lug around a heavy car with backseats? Isnt that what a camaro/mustang/challenger/gto/trans am etc are? I wouldnt call a camaro a sports car, because then your stepping onto ground we cant compete in.

Then you also got a lot pricier gas up here to boot... and the majority of oil imported in the US is also from Canada. Anyone else see something messed up here???

I agree, but by the term we're in the 'Pony car' league... not an expert on the pure definition of it. Just know we all have (or want to have) Pony cars. So maybe someone with a bit more know-how will chime in...

Well I know a little history on the word. Its way out dated like some things in our culture, but here it is.

The muscle cars of the late 60s and early 70s were called a muscle car if the car came equipped with the larger engine. The cars with the smaller engine choice were termed "secretary" cars because the man (boss, guy in charge, whatever) would have the "manly beefy" engine while his secretary would drive the "weaker slower" car. Its chauvinistic at best but interesting still.

Back to the topic, I dont know why people (Im looking at MikeSS) do hate on the V6. I was actually highly considering buying one before I got my SS. It is a great car. It has EVERYTHING to offer that an SS does with exception of the power. The V6 is still a powerful and fast car, so why does it even matter? It personal prefference. Not everyone buys this car to drag race it. I remember someone hating on the V6 once posted they "only care about performance and think this car should be all about racing blah blah blah" then begin to bash one of the V6 owners. Its juvenile at best and even more tis disrespectful. Whenever you bash someone for driving the V6 you basically are saying to them that they have poor judgement because they bought an inferior car. Which is very untrue. I'm sure if you meet the V6 driver they would be perfectly cool and easy to get along with... and they drive the same car as you! Don't split hairs and say "Oh well its not the same, mine is an SS..." its still a camaro to the rest of the world.

After I passed him he punches it again and Im looking at him each time like really? IDIOT! youre in rush hour traffic in the rain.
That happened to me this morning!!
I was on the freeway and saw a silver GTO in my mirror about 1/2 a mile behind me. As we approach downtown, traffic picks up so I immediately switch over 2 lanes into the left lane after downshifting. I guess this guy heard my car and thought he now had to 1up my "ballsy" lane change. So for the next 2 miles in thick traffic this guy is changing lanes like crazy, cutting people off, passing people in the right hand lane and doing everything in his power to stay ahead of me. Why, dude? Youre only making yourself look stupid, wasting gas and putting people at risk. Me, not being a moron, I stayed in the left lane and when traffic picked up I pulled ahead of him again. He was stuck between a bus and an 18 wheeler lmfao. I get to my exit and pull to the right lane. Out of no where this douch nozzle blows by me going like 90 just to get back in "1st". Seriously? Camaro owners, please dont be that douche nozzle...

Ok take your thread back.

Holy crap it was raining hard yesterday on the 15! I was getting scared driving out there LOL!

Stay in school, and don't quit your day job...

Dude you are so wrong for that statement, why do we (v6 owners) have to be stereotyped. I can handle a 312 hp car, 400 hp car, 426 hp car, or a 755 hp car. I cut my teeth on Hot Rods, 55 Chevy, 58 Corvette, 440 Six pack Dodge Charger, and a Monza 350.The fact is I did not want a 1SS car over a 2lt/rs. All the dealers here were pushing either a 1LT, 2LT or a 1SS at the time we got ready for a Camaro. I would like to have a 2SS/RS Convertable but they are not out yet. So for right now the 2LT/RS works for me.

Gotta love it when they say, "oh man, I would have gotten the V8" then they drive off in their 96 corolla. Some people jsut have to put ya down for anything. I have actually been asked if I had the stock stereo, I said yea, but its ok, it has xm and I like that, he replied, OH, you like that. I just said, yes. I also been asked if I had the stock interior, Im like, yes, its brand new.

I don't get all the hate, today a man just set an example for everybody at my local gas station. I was pumping gas in my 2LT, and a man from right across comes over and asks if I used my credit card because his wasn't working on his pump. I told him no, I paid cash and suggested he go ask the cashier for help. He thanked me and was about to walk off and stopped, looked at my car and said "That's a beatiful car you have there young man" (He was between 50-60, thats why he called me young man). I told him thank you, that I appreciate it and I really did. I didn't see what he drove up in because I was on the shop side and he probably pulled in while I was paying the cashier. The cashier came out with him and told him to go to another pump, so I heard a car door open and close. After that, when he started it up I heard a deep, V10 rumble. I immediately went over to look at what he drove. It was a black Audi R8 V10. I gave him a thumbs up and he gave one back. More people need to be like this, a man who drives a 150-200k car genuinely liked my "shitty" v6 as some people look at it. He could have easily told a SS driver, heck even a Z06 driver that he found there car slow, and that it only had 8 cylinders instead of 10. But no, he was just another car enthusiast appreciating someone else's car. That's the kind of people we need out there.

the man obviously liked the 5th Gen style. Only the die hard domestic car guys really care about the engine displacement.

In the real world, most BMW owners don't even know if their car's are RWD.
