I've never seen a downfall of running a 160 t-stat that is working/installed correctly in my last 10 years of working solely on LS motors. The benefit's I saw was at the track with them with quicker cool down times and more consistant 1/4 mile runs when the motor runs hotter is can cause KR.Hotter the motor the less timing they took and slower they went in the 1/4. We spent about 2 years, once a week at track rentals testing alot of crap for the LS cars. As for Evans coolants ect. They like to run about 200-220 degree's to get the full affect of the special mix they have.I don't know the whole story behind it but we ran it in a few of our supercharged/Wet sleeved 427's back in the day. |

I used a 160 stat in my LS1 for about 8 years with no problems. This probally have nothing about the stst, but on my dyno pull my third one was the highest.

192 came from the factory, you gotta give GM engineers some credit. They know what is best for these engines. I think some people get cooler engine confused with cooler intake air/fuel charge. I for one want the bearing/metal part clearances right where they should be on a all aluminum engine.

Actually GM does alot of things for emissions. Hot t-stat, crappy tunes ect. All to make the government happy.

I am totally Open Minded to any and all data regarding the advantages of a 160 stat VS a 192 Stat.
Waiting patiently Just because someones sell hundreds of them does not mean they are advantageous. They Sell Millions of Pills on the internet that supposedly add to the Male Genitalia too. ![]() Ted.

Ted you seem to be a pretty knowledgeable and level headed guy. Is there any DATA to support the NEED for a oil catch can?

Purpose of your Stock PCV System: Negative Effects of your Stock PCV System: Many Camaro owners with LSX engines can testify to the amount of oil residue that can accumulate inside the intake manifold, throttle body, intake track and even the air filter during aggressive driving conditions. The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) system is designed to regulate and remove fumes from the engine crankcase, and to alleviate crankcase pressure which could cause oil leaks or seal damage. The PCV system routes crankcase fumes into the intake manifold where they can be burned to eliminate harmful emissions into the atmosphere. The PCV valve controls the amount of crankcase flow volume depending on the engine's load. With large throttle openings (high engine loads), the more blow-by gases are produced, and the more the PCV system flows oil vapor in to the intake manifold. The PCV valve also functions as a check valve to prevent intake manifold flow from reversing back into the crankcase when there is a backfire, or during periods of high manifold pressure (boost) during forced induction by turbocharger or supercharger. There are various negative effects when excess oil vapor contaminates the intake system from the stock PCV system - such as:
your engine!
